Biography

This profile originally asserted, without source, a birth of 1 Feb 1622 at Great Mindon, Hertfordshire, England. Given her first known marriage about 1641, she was probably born by 1622 but no more specifics are known other than a birth before 1612 based on his likely minimum age as a freeman and property owner in New England. Her father's year and place of birth are not known, nor the name of Elizabeth's mother, an early wife of John Clark.

Elizabeth Clark, daughter of John Clark, was born about 1622. She married William Pratt by 1641; he died in 1678.[1] Elizabeth married second, William Parker, prior to 1682.[2] Per Torrey, her marriage to William Parker took place before May 31, 1682.[3] Elizabeth's second spouse, William Parker, whom she married between 1680 and 1682 per this source, died at Saybrook, Connecticut, December 28, 1686.[4]

Elizabeth Clark Pratt Parker's death date hasn't been found. Saybrook Records 1:19 lists the "land of William Pratt, son of Lieutenant William Pratt, deceased." One entry reads, "...and the boggie is bounded southward with the boggie meadow of Elizabeth Parker, late wife of Lieutenant Pratt."[5]

Research Notes

  • Daughter of Sgt. John Clark of Cambridge. Parents members of Rev Thomas Hooker's Congregation. Removed to found Hartford, Connecticut colony 1636 when Elizabeth was about 14 yrs old.
  • So far no sources found for her death date Oct 21, 1678 which is quite prevalent in internet family trees. Quality sources show that she married 2nd William Parker by 1682, which rules out her passing away in 1678. More research required to find her correct death date.

Please add sources to show that Mary Coley is the spouse of John Clark of Hartford, Saybrook and Milford and that Mary Coley is the mother of his children.
