Burleson Genealogies Page 330

Legend has it that Aaron died looking for his friend Daniel Boone. He died near Lick Creek, Washington County, Tennessee (now Greene County).

Rutherford County, North Carolina Burleson's seem to be the sons of Aaron II...Thomas is apparently taking care of his younger siblings after Aaron's death in 1782... John (23), James(15) and ? (Aaron III supposedly died 1785). It may also be that while in North Tennessee, close to Virginia and Kentucky lines, some of the family decided to head for Kentucky (where some were found). It is believed that Jonathan (brother of Aaron II) went there. There were supposed to be two others...brothers or sons or nephews. Who is the 4th male in Thomas' house? A son? How many were sons? Jno. is Aaron II's son... and so is Jo. (Joseph?)...This discussion was previously viewable as part of "Aaron Burleson's Frontier," at http://hometown.aol.com/brooksgen/aaron.html - the hometown/AOL sites were deleted 31 Oct 2008 and can no longer be accessed. Aaron was the first Burleson in the South to Virginia.

Aaron Burleson was a close friend of Daniel Boone per North Carolina historians claiming friendship with Daniel Boone. This friendship is in dispute.

He married Rachel Hendricks born ca 1730 and died ca 1783 in Rutherford, County, NC (Rachel's maiden name has not been verified?).

They had 13 children listed in Aaron's will dated May of 1782 in Sullivan County, NC.

Children Include

  1. John
  2. Joseph married Nancy Gage,
  3. Jonathon
  4. Elizabeth
  5. Thomas
  6. Sarah
  7. Aaron
  8. Rachel
  9. Nancy
  10. Abigail married Reuben Gage,
  11. Mary
  12. Rhoda
  13. James who married his cousin Elizabeth Shipman.

In 1782 Aaron left to visit his good friend, Daniel Boone(who lived a few days walk from the Burleson home) who lived in Kentucky. Aaron was ambushed and killed by Cherokee Indians while crossing the Clinch (Clynch) River per Tenn. historians. Aaron had many arrows in him and he had been scalped. There are disputes as to the exact year he died. N.C. historians claim Aaron was killed by Cherokee Indians while on the Cane Creek while with Daniel Boone.

NO PHOTO OF HIM ---- A mistake was made and a photo has been mistakenly identified as him. The picture to the right is of Robert Mitchell Burleson (1851 - 1894) per office manager of the Avery County Historical Museum in Newland, N.C. Robert Mitchell is the great-great grandson of Aaron Burleson who was born in 1712.

1776 Project note:

Hi all in the comments here working on Aarons page! I just wanted to pop in and notate that I cited this source on his brothers and didn't want to mess up the draft saves on here already in place. The major issue is if 6 died in the Revolution then their dates should be closer unless the information is wrong in that book. If you need help be sure to reach out to the 1776 team for extra help !!

Henrietta Burleson was indeed the daughter of Aaron Burleston, and I can prove it. She married John RUSSELL-26693, who is either the father of William Russell-8643, or his paternal Uncle.

William Russell was a MAJOR in the war of 1812. Look on his profile, and see a 1917 newspaper clipping from San Antonio, TX which states the rifle of Major William Russell was donated to the Alamo Museum by the Burleson family. Specifically, the man who gave it to the Alamo John Fawcett Burleson-1122, s/o Burelson-287, s/o Burleson-281, son Aaron Burleson-96. The possesion of the gun proves that Henrietta Burleson Russell was the daughter of Aaron, and the gun was given to the Burleson family by the Russell family.

Hello,

What about Henrietta Burleson? John J. RUSSELL was born 1722 in Virginia, and died Abt 1812. He married Henrietta BURLESON Abt 1750, daughter of Aaron BURLESON and Rachel HENDRICKS.

I don't see her in the will, but perhaps she was dead prior to Aaron writing the will? Best regards, Lilly Martin

Burleson-893 and Burleson-96 appear to represent the same person because: additional primary sources are needed to validate dates, it would appear that the dates on Burleson-893 may belong to a different man by the same name.

Burleson-1286 and Burleson-96 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same man, same children/descendants; creator of 1286 follows the Burleson Family Association conclusion that Aaron was born in New Jersey while 96 has him born in North Carolina (where he lived many years); one man should have one profile with the sources for the various locations in birth 'discussed' to move towards resolution. The wikitree goal is to collaborate on profiles with one human body having one profile.

I see it says, 1726, migrated to Maryland from Wales with father. But it is showing North Carolina as the place of birth on the profile. Which one is correct?
posted by S Martin
Neither is correct. Aaron's son, Joseph R. Burleson, stated in Letters from Alabama by Anne Newport Royall in 1819 that his father was born in New Jersey. That is what the Burleson Family Association uses as its standard.
