Biography

Abraham was a son of Jacob Vosburgh and Dorothea Janse (Van Aalsteyn). Innes Getty listed him as their second child and estimated his birthdate as about 1682,^[1] but because he was given his paternal grandfather's name of "Abraham," it is likely that he was his parents' first son, born earlier than his brother Jan.

He married Claartje Bressie in about 1705.^[2]

Jacobus, son of Abraham Vosburg and Claartje Bressy, was baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany, New York, on 29 September 1705.^[3]

Abraham passed away in 1727. ^[4] This death date may be nothing more than "after the birth of the last child."

Research Notes

Profile Vosburgh-51 gave his birthplace as Athens, Greene, New York, but these place names did not exist in the 1680s and it is unclear why he was thought to be from that geographic location.
