It is possible, but not proven that Pieter was the son of Cornelis Aertzen (Breyant) and Beletje Hendricks. This is question is compounded with the possibility that the parents of Hendrickje Arentse, Pieter's wife, are possibly Cornelis Aertzen (Breyant) and Beletje Hendricks [1]

Pieter's parents are commonly given as Cornelis Aertzsen and Belitje Hendrickse. This couple adopted the van Schaick surname. In the "NY Gen. and Bio. Record", April 1876, the Van Schaick article does not mention a son Pieter. Also, when Cornelis died about 1666, no Pieter was mentioned among the heirs. A 1982 study on the Van Schaick family likewise does not mention a son Pieter. Cornelis' children all took the van Schaick surname, so it makes little sense that this Pieter would adopt the Breyandt surname if a son of Cornelis. His early records show he used van Steenwyck as a surname. Therefore it is unlikely that Cornelis and Belitje were his parents. However, for a convoluted argument for his paternity as a son of Cornelis Aertzsen, see the "Bryant Family History", page 20. page 20
Pieter probably was either from Steenwyck, or his parents were, as his marriage record uses van Steenwyck as the surname. (He is not listed as a son of Cornelis Jacobs van Steenwyck who was an early mayor of New York). He apparently adopted the Breyandt surname after his marriage.
