Biography

Jurian NAGEL, baptized 28 Sept 1653 at the New York DRC, witnessed by "Cornelis Van Tienhoven, Cornelia Hendricksen, Jannetje Eesens." He may have been the Corporal Nagel stationed for 22 months in North Harlem about 1673. ["History of Harlem" by James Riker, 1904.] He lived in "Boswyck" per the records of the Flatbush Reformed Dutch Church when he m. Jannetje PHILLIPS (daughter of Phillip LANGELAN and sister of Annetje PHILLIPS who married his uncle Volkert DIRCKS) on 1 Jan 1679. [The marriage record erroneously called her "Maria" but did let us know she was a "yd of Pynacker, Holland."]

They moved to Manhattan Island soon after marrying. Jannetje became a member of the New York DRC on 25 Aug 1679, a little more than a month before they baptized their first child there. Jurian became a member on 30 May 1683. They were both listed in church records in 1686, when they were reported living on New Street, and again in 1696 when it was reported they had previously removed to Bushwick. They possibly moved by 1694: on 14 Nov 1694 he and former Hoogh Straet neighbor Dorothea CALYER witnessed a baptism at the Brooklyn DRC. The 1698 Census listed him at Bushwick with a wife, five children and five slaves. A 1706 property list reported he owned 95 acres at Bushwick. Jurian's will was dated 2 Dec 1732 and probated 23 May 1738. (see abstract under Jurian's profile) The executors were his son Jan and son-in-law Andrew STOCKHOLM. It was witnessed by Hendrick VAN DE WATER, Pieter DEWITT, and Abraham LOTT, all of Bushwick.

Jurian lived to be about 84, and Jannetje must have lived to at least 80.[1][2]

Langelaen-1 and Phillips-8110 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. These matches have been reviewed by the New Netherland Settlers Merge Approval System, and the "Green" destination NNS profile is protected as PPP, and the "Merge Pending" profile is now ready and able to be merged into it. I saved the data to the bios. We will need to capture the more complete birth from this match, Born March 8, 1652 in Pijnacker, Pijnacker, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. Thanks!
