Biography

Spelling of the Name

Josiah Read (name is spelled "Read" by Anderson in Great Migration Series.)[1]

Origin

Josiah was born "say 1643," possibly at Weymouth, or at Boston, Massachusetts.[2] Apparently the record of his birth has not been located. His next younger sibling was born at Weymouth, and his next older sibling at Boston. He was a son of William Read and Susanna Hayme.[2]

Family

Josiah married in November 1666, at Marshfield, Plymouth Colony[3] (also recorded at Norwich,[4] where they settled), to Grace Holloway, daughter of William Holloway.[5][2] She died May 9, 1727 at Norwich, Connecticut.[6][7]

A duplicate profile claimed the marriage took place on 4 Nov. 1666 in Norwich (without evidence, source was user-submitted).[8]

Josiah's younger half-brother, Hezekiah, born 6 July 1663 in Boston, chose Josiah and brother, John, as guardians.[5]

Death and Legacy

Josiah died 3 July 1717 at Norwich, New London County, Connecticut.[6][7]

No, S. (Hill). Unfortunately, a merge was reversed and completed in the wrong direction.

From what I read in his profile, it looks like his LNAB should be Read (Anderson, etc.) Is there a reason it is Reed?

The proposed merge with Reade-189 has been approved, but I would like to delay it a bit longer to give the profile manager for the other proposed merge for that profile (i.e., Read-38) more of a chance to weigh in.

Reed-1698 and Reade-189 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. I am proposing READE as the final LNAB because of its preponderance on related profiles.

Reed-1709 and Reed-1698 appear to represent the same person because: all information is the same
