Alexander Stewart (5th Lord Blantyre) was born c. 1649. He was the son of Alexander Stewart 94th Lord Blantyre0 and his wife Margaret Shaw.He was also known as Alexander Stuart. He succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Blantyre c. May 1676. He died on 20 June 1704.2
Alexander raised a regiment for King William III. 1 On 9 June 1702 he protested against the legality of the convention.
On 15 October 1702 he was Executor for a considerable fortune from his cousin, Frances Teresa Stewart, Duchess of Richmond and Lennox - part of the diposable funds were used to pay off his debts with the bulk of the estate to pass to his son Walter.
In 1703 he was fined £5,000 "after apologising for undutiful expressions uttered against the High Commissioner.
