Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:
Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.
We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.
As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!
P.S. When you have an ancestor you are stuck on, you can add the category "Family Brickwall" to their profile. That will make it so that other people will join in the search. To add the category, edit the narrative section of their profile page to put in as much as you do know and what the remaining questions are. Then at the very top of that area, above the biography section, add: ((Category:Family_Brickwall)), replacing the double parentheses with double brackets ]] on each end. (I can't show you directly due to formatting issues.)
I have been doing genealogy research for the past 5 years. My ancestral background is almost 100% German. I have a brick wall at my 4th great grandparents, Cutlope and Magdalena (Unknown) Hancock. I'm hoping that by using the WikiTree website, that I can break thru this brick wall.
Cindy, I noticed you plan to or already uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to instructions on the step-by-step gedcom import at WikiTree , including screenshots that you might find helpful. You might also want to check out our gedom instructions
Please keep in mind that our vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person. Thank you for taking the time to go through your gedmatches at WikiTree when you upload your gecom.
TIP: if your ancestor was born over two hundred years ago, there's a very good chance she/he already has a profile on Wikitree.

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Options for getting started:
Key Concepts:
1. Sourcing makes the difference between genealogy and mythology.
2. In order to build one collaborative tree, each person must have only ONE profile.

adding a GEDCOM to WikiTree] that you might find helpful. If you have any brick walls, collaboration might help bust through. Because WikiTree has
only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist
can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open).
There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall The help pages give lots of information about
the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.
