Jane's parents are Hardin Shumate and Elizabeth Leach, both from Virginia. Her known siblings are Edmund, Susan Moran, George Washington, Cynthia, Hester, Kendley, William, Elizabeth, Hardin and Martha S Shumate.

She married Joseph Carper, September 4, 1824 in Peterstown, Monroe County, Virginia. Their known children are Hester Elizabeth (Hattie), Andrew Jackson, George Washington (Wash), William Decatur, Susan Jane, Mary Ann, Isaac Perry, Hardin Houston, Virginia C (Jennie), Samuel Hamilton Walter, Isabella R (Belle) and Joseph Emery Carper.

In 1880 Jane was widowed and living with her son Joseph in Shady Springs.

Option 2: 17 Dec 1809:

Marriage to [Carper-367|Joseph Carper]] was on 4 Sep 1824 in Monroe County, Virginia. Jane would have been about fourteen when she married.

Conclusion:: Option 1 is most likely:

Since Jane would have been too young when she married had she been born in 1809, then Jane was born during 1805.
