| Sanders Whitley is a part of Iowa history. Join: Iowa Project Discuss: Iowa |
Born and raised in North Alabama. After high school I enlisted in the US Navy for four years. Served aboard the USS Dale ( the Mayport Cruiser). I then retuned to North Alabama for four years and then decided to re-enlist.
After retiring from the US Navy in 2004, I came home to Iowa. My wife and I began the second part of our journey. We began raising miniature horses and enjoying the mild and comfortable Iowa winters. All we really needed were children, so we adopted a son and daughter.
My wife got me interested in researching our family trees and it has become a hobby that I try and spend a couple of hours doing each day. I have found answers to puzzles and then found that the answer only leads to more puzzles. I enjoy the WikiTree Iowa/Hansell project because it allows me the chance to discover a bit of local history and provides clear and simple pleasure.
"What a long strange trip it's been."

You received a message a couple of weeks ago about the new-look Global Cemeteries Project but we have not yet heard back from you. If you would like to continue in the project, please can you PM me your team(s) selections and your e-mail address for the Google group.
If I dont hear back from you by this time next week Ill assume you no longer wish to be in the project at this time.
Many thanks,
Darren :-)
Project Coordinator for Membership Global Cemeteries Project
Weve made some exciting changes to the Global Cemeteries Project. The sub-projects have been merged into the Global Project to help with Leadership and to facilitate collaboration.
Some roles within the project have changed. From now on, there are Project Coordinators for each continent, and one for Welcome and Integration, plus Team Leaders for each individual Country etc.
Please let me know if youd like to stay on in the new project, if youd like to continue in an existing role, and which team(s) youd like to be on. Please also give me your e-mail address so that I can get you added to the projects Google Group.
Many thanks,
Susie
Leader, Global Cemeteries
I'd love to have you helping out with the Iowa Cemeteries Project! I love my home state-we're happy to have you here on WikiTree and in good ol' IA :-) I have a very incomplete page started for a cemetery I have yet to get back to near me that you can follow as a template: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Vandalia_Cemetery,_Vandalia,_Iowa
Let me know if you need guidance in setting up categories for the cemeteries according to our guidelines. Otherwise, you can get as creative/detailed with the free-space pages as you like, aside from naming them pretty straightforwardly.
I am happy to help with questions; just let me know!
Thanks, Abby
Thank you for your message. I added the category for Hansell, Iowa to William Folks' profile. You can click on the edit tab to see how this was coded. We always try to narrow down the categories to the most specific one, so the town would be the most appropriate rather than the county, just as you suggested. ;-)

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else!!
Summer :D
I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! This certification requires participation in a project related to the profiles you wish to edit. Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Also, check out our Volunteer Hub to see our projects that really need new members!
Let me know! I can help you figure out if there's a project and introduce you to the project leaders. Welcome aboard!
Summer-Volunteer Coordinator

Have fun and make sure to join in the Question of the Week: How do you document, preserve, and share your photos? How do you store your originals? and share your tips!
If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly group of volunteers who are glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems.
See you in the branches---
