P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
Thanks for your message and the info. It's been slow-going entering information on my ancestors and relatives because a lot of what I have was acquired "pre-Internet", from library microfilm and lists printed in books and written down on paper. (Shocking!)

I signed the honor code. When I tried entering a family tree to link to my father Andrew Sutherland and my mother Violet Mildred Montgomery, my name was added to their info which already had me as "private". There's only one of us--I was an only child! How do I connect to trees entered by other profile managers so I don't have to start from scratch?

I checked both profiles for your parents and those profiles do not have a profile manager so you can adopt them. In the box just below the vital information your will see "No profile Manager" Next to that there is a tiny statement "adopt this profile". Click on that and you are then the manager. Next see if you have two profiles on WikiTree. The "private son" may be you with a different WikiTree ID number. If so, you can merge those and then your parents will have one son - you. If you have a problem and cannot see the private son, please contact [email address removed] Explain the situation and they can help you get it straightened out.
Thanks for asking this question - it is a rather easy fix but could be frustrating for a new member. Please ask as other questions arise - we are all here to help.

You will need to upgrade, before you can do this, you can upgrade at no cost to the Family Member level at any time by adding your genealogy communication preferences. if their profiles are "open" ones, these are shown by an open padlock in the top right-hand corner you can link them straight away, if they have a closed padlock, then you would need to contact the profile manager first and ask them to add you to a trusted list, saying that you would like to link with them. Prior to contacting them it is best to check their contributions first, if they have not made any for 60 days or longer, that generally means they are no longer active on WT, in these cases you would need to send a message to [email address removed] and ask them to add you to the trusted list.

My mother Violet Mildred Montgomery and her siblings and grandparents are already on WikiTree. How do I link to them so I don't have to start over entering the same info?
