Hi Steve,

Welcome to WikiTree and to the Louisiana Project! Now that you're a part of our team I hope you'll become very familiar with our Louisiana Project page, the Acadians Project page, and our guidelines for profiles. Membership in a project means doing the best work we can do to showcase project-managed (and our own-managed) profiles. I highly recommend you sign up for the Profile Improvement Project's "PIP Voyage" to get personal guidance on how to make the most of two of your own-managed profiles before you start working on profiles managed by others. (As a former PIP guide, the best advice I can give you after that is proof read your work as you edit, and again after you save.) The Voyage will teach you much more than editing tips, though. They'll help you with the WT Style Guide, with uploading images, and with all of the many apps now available. They'll answer every question you throw at them, and will help you get the most out of your WT experience!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your contributions and your interest in Acadian and Cajun families. You may have noticed a number of merge proposals for Acadian profiles you've created. WikiTree is different from other trees in that you don't build your own - all the ancestors are shared. It's important not to make a new profile for people in your tree if they already have one on WikiTree. Here's how to find out: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:How_to_Search_for_Existing_Profiles

If you need help with anything Acadian, or finding a person or sources, please don't hesitate to contact me. Gisèle Cormier, Acadians Project co-leader

Hi Steve,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Steve

You can not delete duplicate profiles. What you need to do is to merge the new profile you created into the existing profile. There is more information on merging on this page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Merging

See you in the branches

Hello again Stephen,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

Happy Tree Climbing, Pam ~ Your WikiGreeter.

Hi Pam,

I received the Book ( The Genealogy of an Acadian and Cajun Family ) from my Son as a gift . It was very confusing to me at first , but the more I read it I figured out how to use it. Since then I have searched for good genealogy sites to use for additional information. I discovered that most want to charge a fee for the use of their site. I stumbled onto Wiki tree and was amazed at the amount of information that is available to me for free. I plan to do a Family tree for my son that gifted the book to me. His Grandmother on my Dad's side died when he was 2 years old , so he never had the opportunity to know her. I plan to continue to explore using this fascinating resource that I have discovered . Thanks to you and everyone that takes time adding , correcting information for others to discover and learn from.
