Leslie, thanks for the post on my profile about Herodias. Her marriage record identifies her father, at least, as William Long.

Hi, you now have the Mayflower Badge, in addition to your spiffy looking sticker.

I cannot afford to take any DNA test. It isn't important to me to know what continents my heritage says I come from, or what percentage comes from what continent. What is important to me is what I KNOW of my ancestral genealogy.

Leslie, I agree. I find the same Gardners/Gardiners spell their names differently on different records, and so don't find that a reason not to merge. Is there a reason to pick Gardner or Gardiner as the end name for the merges?

Hi, Leslie. I see you've been busy working on your family tree. Hurray for that! Unfortunately, a number of the new profiles you've created are duplicates of existing profiles. That's not good. Because many of our ancestors are already in WikiTree, particularly long-ago ancestors, it's very important that we search for existing profiles before we create new ones. You can do that by entering the name in the search box at the top of the screen or by using the surname page (for example, http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/ORVIS ) and sorting it by name and birthdate to see if your person is already here.

And one more thing: PLEASE enter your sources when creating new profiles or adding data. That helps all of us do a better job of documenting our families and sharing information.

Hey Leslie,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards .

If you need to describe an event, heirloom or a location relevant to your research, try Free Space Profiles .

If you run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving these unfortunate situations.

A project of note is the Global Family Reunion check it out at Global Family Reunion.
