Marie Babineau was born on 25 March 1729 in Annapolis-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Rene Babineau and Marie Magdelaine Savoie. She was baptized on 7 July 1730 in Annapolis Royal. Her sponsors were René Doucet and Anne Bourg, wife of Charles Guilbeau. [1]
Marie married Amand Comeau (born in Chipoudie, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia; son of François Comeau and Marie Madeleine Lord) on 9 May 1752 in Annapolis Royal, Acadie. [2]
Their children were:
The young couple appeared on the 1755 census in Memramcook with 2 boys. [3] [4]
Soon after, trying to escape deportation, they fled to Isle Saint-Jean (present-day Prince Edward Island). Around 4 June 1756, according to researcher André-Carl Vachon, they boarded a vessel (a schooner or the ship Anna-Sophia) that departed Isle Saint-Jean for the port of Quebec, where they disembarked 2 weeks later. Travelling with Amand and Marie were their children Antoine-Firmin and Marie-Josèphe. Marie's sister Cécile Babineau was also with them. (Cécile was godmother to Félicité baptized 7 March 1757 at Notre-Dame-de-Québec). Amand's sister Cécile Comeau and her family were also on board. [5] Vachon believes that Amand participated in the battle on the Plains of Abraham on 13 September 1759 because all of the men between the ages of 15 and 60, living in Nouvelle-France, were obligated to join the militia.
Marie died on 18 February 1766 in St-François-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Montmagny, Quebec Province. [6]
