Familytrees and Projects

  • I have trees on multiple different sites, I have one on ancestry thats I havent put much effort in, and is not that accurate after 1800s, or isnt even imputed, I have a tree on familysearch thats in a very similar state, I have a more accurate tree on Geni/Myheritage, especially of my grandmothers side
  • Wikitree is where I have the most accurate and up to date tree of my ancestors, that is being currently renovated, for more sources and bioagraphies
  • I have also done trees that I am not connected too, that I call 'projects', like 'the Insulander project', where I am responsible for every single profile with the surname Insulander that I could fine, try and connecting them all and adding every single direct source I could find, or the closet second hand source
  • I also have done the 'Hermanö' Project, where I tried to add every single person post 1700s that either payed tax or owneed Stora Hermanö, Morlanda, Göteborg, also did a little research on Wolter but not that much, and I did do some ancestral research for Gustav Oscar Augstin Montelius, then some other small stuff I cant remember

Sources

  • Almost every profile that I have created have link and source information on their sources, some of my very early profiles, either dont have links or was used a very complicated system, due to my then lack of understanding and care of properly putting them in
  • Almost every profile uses direct first hand documentation from Riksarkivet which is Swedens digital archive of their records, and I also add Swedish newspapers (tidningar.kb.se), and maps (lantmateriet), if the person is referenced there, sometimes I add links and names to other trees and sites, that has contains family stories or are just generally good trees, I do not use that as an excuse to not add first hand sources, if I can find it, I do not have acess to arkivedigital
  • all the sources are in a order of, Birth, Jordböcker, Mantalslängder, Husförhörlängder, Församlingsböcker, Death, Bouppteckning, Marriage, Inflyttningslängder/utfyttningsländer, Generalmösterullor/Flottans rullor, newspappers, maps, other (wikipedia or another tree)
  • As of 24 january 2024, 31% of all my direct ancestors have detailed biographies, and their siblings have birth and baptism information, that I have done with my own standard, focusing on preserving the information that is documented within the records, like spelling of names while also modernizing and translating information thats not 'names, places, certain occupations' to English for better accessability
  • Sometimes I change certain standardisations cuz im a little bit uncertain and also miss and make mistakes, like spelling of locations and names on witnesses, missing a child, mantalslängder and jordböcker
  • This is how I a biography will look like
  • (Child name) was born on (Farm, Village, Parish, Region, Country), in (date), child of (Occupation) (Fathers name) and (mothers name), and was baptized in (date) on the same time and place/(Farm, Village, Parish)
  • WItnesses are (name) on (place), etc
  • (Person) lived on (place1) with family until moving from (place1) in (date) to (Parish), reaching (Farm/adress, parish) in (date)
  • Moved from (place2) in (date) to (Parish), reaching (Farm/adress, parish) in (date), etc
  • (Person) on (place) bans and Married (partner) on (place), in (date)
  • Person parented (amount of kids with partner), (amount) girls, (amount) boys, (amount) unknown, all on (Farm)
  • After (partner) died in (date), (person) married (partner2) on (place), in (date)
  • Person parented (amount of kids with partner), (amount) girls, (amount) boys, (amount) unknown
  • (date), (Farm), (childfirstname1), died (age)
  • (date), (Farm), (childfirstname2)
  • date), (Farm), (childfirstname3)
  • Then (person) died on (farm, Village, Parish, Region, country) in (date), age (amount), af (cause of death), and was buried in (date) on the same time and place/(date)
  • A profile will have research notes, mainly adding every type of spelling for that persons name, a profile might also have a note explaining why a certain family connection is made, its not a perfect system, but I do try to make it easier for future genealogist

Hello Justus,

Thanks for creating the pre-1700 profiles Bengt Jonsson (abt.1683-) and Britta Svensdotter (1682-).

Please provide at least a birth or death location estimate rather than leaving both locations blank. This helps disambiguate people since we have a global tree, locations help distinguish one profile of the same name from another. Even an estimate such as a continent, e.g., Europe or North America, is better than blank. Please read more here. Please explain the rationale for your estimate in a = = Research Notes = = section.

In the case of Bengt, your source is a church which presumably gives a hint of location of either birth or death.

-William

Hi Justus

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
