Biography

Madeleine Marthe Bonnevie was born on 20 January 1765 in Saint-Pierre, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, daughter of Jacques Bonnevie and Madeleine Thébeau. She was baptized on 3 October 1765 in St Pierre, St Pierre et Miquelon. [1] Her sponsors were Me François-Paul Ardilliers priest of Miquelon & Dame Catherine-Françoise Dangeac de La Boucherie who signed.

On 15 May 1767, a census was taken showing Jacques, Madeleine and their 3 daughters Marie, Marthe and Suzanne living in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. [2]:

  • Jacques BONNEVIE, venu d'Halifax (31)
  • Madeleine THIBODEAU, sa femme (27)
  • Marie BONNEVIE, leur fille (5)
  • Marthe BONNEVIE, leur fille (3)
  • Suzanne BONNEVIE, leur fille (1)

She married Martin Maillet, son of Jean-Pierre Maillet and Marie-Madeleine Boudrot, around 1793. [3]

Their son was Charles Maillet who married Elisabeth dite Babée La Crèpe Benoit, daughter of Boniface Benoit and Julie Petitpas, on 14 February 1820 in Tracadie, Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

She married Jean Petitpas, son of Jacques Petitpas and Françoise Breau, around 1804. [3]

She died on 10 December 1843 in Tracadie, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Her burial took place on 12 December 1843 in Tracadie. [3]

Research Notes

There is an issue with regard to the husband of Magdeleine-Marthe. Unsourced records indicate Marie Genevieve married a Jean Petipas, s/o Joseph and Marie Louise Fougere. Magdeleine Marthe married a Jean Petipas s/o Jacques Petipas and Francoise Breau. The records mentioned in Fr. LeJamtel's book indicate a Jean Petipas paid his church tax and is noted with a wife named Marie Marthe. [4] There is no Marie Marthe Bonnevie in any records known. There are the two sisters, Marie Genevieve and Magdeleine Marthe.

The records of Fr. Lejamtel have Martin Maillet paying his taxes in 1796 with his wife listed as "Marthe Madeleine Bonnevie d/o Jacques and Madeleine Thebeau. This confirms Martin as the husband of Marthe Madeleine. He is not listed in the later tax payments.

In the same document, Jean Petitpas s/o Joseph and Marie Louise can be found paying his taxes in 1796, 1799 and 1801. His wife is listed as Marie Marthe Bonnevie d/o Jacques and Madeleine Thebeau.

Ray and Thom, this woman born on 20 January 1765 was named Madeleine Marthe and was born to different parents: Jacques Bonnevie (1733-) and Marie Magdeleine Thebeau. She is now connected to another Jacques Bonnevie who died in 1760, 3 years before her birth. Also, reliable family trees (see Research Notes) show that her husband Jean Petitpas is now connected to the wrong parents. He was the son of Jacques Petitpas and Françoise Breau.

Madeleine Marthe had a sister Marie Geneviève who was born in 1763. Marie Geneviève also married a man with the name Jean Petitpas, and he is the one now connected to Madeleine Marthe. A merge was proposed for Madeleine Marthe and Marie Geneviève and is now an unmerged match.

I would like to:

  • Reject the merge of Madeleine Marthe (Marie Madeleine) and Marie Geneviève because they were sisters born 2 years apart, and their baptisms are sourced.
  • Remove Madeleine Marthe (Marie Madeleine) from these parents and connect her to Jacques Bonnevie (1733-) and Marie Magdeleine Thebeau.
  • Remove Jean Petitpas as her husband because he is already connected to the correct spouse Marie Geneviève.
  • Create a new profile for her husband Jean Petitpas born to Jacques Petitpas and Françoise Breau.

If you have any sources that indicate that these changes shouldn't be made, or any objections, please let me know. Thanks!
