Biography

Julian or Juliana Carpenter was the daughter of Alexander Carpenter and his wife Priscilla. (Alexander's wife was not Priscilla Dillen - a discussion of her uncertain existence is on her profile).
Julian was born in the parish of Bath St James, Somerset, England and was baptised at the parish church on 7 March 1583/4:

Julian Carpenter the Daughter of Alexander Carpenter was Christned the vij th [March ano 1583] (7 March 1583/4) [1]

Julian was the second of Alexander's children to be born in Bath. After her baptism, no further records of this family appear in the parish register of Bath St James. There is then a six year gap from 1584 to 1590 after which the family start to be recorded in the parish register of Wrington, Somerset. The family probably continued to live in Wrington at least until 1610 when Julian's sister Joan was buried there. Sometime between 1610 and July 1612, the Carpenter family moved to Leiden, Zuid-Holland.

Julian married her first husband George Morton, a merchant born in York, England, on 23 July 1612 in Leiden, Zuid-Holland. [2] [3][4]

The marriage register confirms that Julian was born in Bath ("Baert") and shows that both her father and sister Alice ("Elsge") were witnesses.

They had 5 children that came to Plymouth on the Anne in 1623. Her husband George died June, 1624. [5]

Their children include:

  1. Patience Morton
  2. John Morton
  3. Nathaniel Morton
  4. Sarah Morton
  5. Ephraim Morton

She married (2) Menassah Kempton in 1627.[2]

She died at the age of 82 on 19 Feb 1665 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts. [6][7]

Carpenter-17599 and Carpenter-299 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicate. Please merge, retaining all info from Carpenter-299

I submit that merge with Carpenter-299 should not have been rejected, especially since the spouse of this profile is most likely the spouse of Carpenter-299.

Hi,

These are the same and can be merged, thanks !

Re: marriage date: I have no idea, but since the two dates are less than two weeks apart, it seems likely that one of the dates was for a religious ceremony and the other for a civil ceremony or registration date.

The marriage field of Juliana Carpenter to George Morton on this profile says "2 Aug 1612" but the biography says "July 23, 1612." Does anyone know which is correct?
