Biography

Notables Project
Charles Constantine is Notable.
Charles was a Law Enforcement Officer.
Charles Constantine was a Californian.

Charles Constantine was a Canadian wilderness pioneer. He joined the North-west Mounted Police in 1886 after service during the Red River Rebellion and provided intelligence in order to establish a police presence in the Yukon when the Klondike Gold Rush started in 1897.

Charles Constantine, child of Isaac Constantine & Mary Constantine, was born on 13 November 1846 and baptised on 29 January 1847 in Bradford, St Peter (Bradford Cathedral), Yorkshire, England.[1]

By 1851 Nathan (32) and Mary (35) Constantine had emigrated to Canada. It appears that it was before their daughter's birth in 1847. At the time of the Census, they were living in Stanbridge in Missisquoi County, Canada East. They had two children at home, Charles (6) and Mary (4). Nathan was clergy for the Church of England. [2]

The family, including Charles, would remain in Stanbridge through 1871, with Isaac retaining his position as clergyman.[3][4]

By 1891, Charles was married to Henrietta and they had a son, Charles F (7). As Charles was a member of the NWMP, the family was stationed at Broadview in The Territories.[5]

By 1901 Charles was a superintendent with the NWMP and he and Henrietta were lodged in Fort Saskatchewan in The Territories, in the district of Alberta.[6]

In 1911, Charles and Henrietta were shown living in Prince Albert.[7]
