He married his first wife, Hannah Crosedale Warner Ely, on January 11th or 24th, 1776, in Darlington, Maryland.[1] He died in 1782 at the age of 47.[2]
A certificate of removal was requested in 1773 for Thomas & Sarah Ely, with minor children Hugh & Thomas.[3] The family removed to Deer Creek Meeting, Maryland. [4]
