Life Sketch • From Ancestry.com - William Frogge's mother was Elizabeth Strother. Elizabeth Strother's sister Agatha married John Madison. Agatha and John had a son named James Madison, so indeed there is a first cousin of William Frogge named James Madison. This James Madison was quite prominent. He was the first Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Virginia, but he was not the President of the U.S.
There is still a shirt-tail relationship to the President James Madison however. A Wikipedia article says that Bishop James Madison was a cousin of President James Madison. So I did some more hunting.
Some Ancestry.com family trees have Bishop James Madison's father John Madison as a son of Ambrose Madison, which would make John Madison President James Madison's uncle. BUT a genealogy paper "Descendents of Ambrose Madison, the Grandfather of President James Madison, Jr." (written by C. Thomas Chapman of the Montpelier Foundation, available on the the website for the Descendents of James Madison; jamesmadisonfamily.com) doesn't list a John Madison as a son of Ambrose.
I found a reference in Google Books in the Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography (edited by Lyon Gardner Tyler) that John Madison was the brother of Ambrose Madison, making him the President's Great Uncle. So Bishop James Madison was a first cousin to William Frogge on his mother's side and a somewhat removed cousin of President James Madison on his father's side. William and Arthur Robinson Frogge may have felt a cousin's loyalty to President James Madison, but they were not actually related to the President.
From Ancestry.com - ...about this time, William Frogg came to this county and seeing the opportunity for speculation in land, induced his brother-in-law, David Robinson, who had money, to come and join him in taking up lands. They had Samuel Hutchinson, who afterwards married Robinson's daughter, appointed deputy to Reuben Slaughter, surveyor of [what was then] Kanawha County; Robert McKee being a deputy at the time. They all took up considerable of the best land in the County. After the speculations were over, Robinson who had furnished the money and managed the business up to this time went to the State of Kentucky [as did William Frogg] for a new field of speculation. All fo them soon went west to seek new homes and thier specualations here never made much for any of them except McKee, who realized something out of his investments.

Death • • 4 September 1804 Monroe, West Virginia, United States Reason This Information Is Correct: There are no sources to show he died in Fentress Tennessee. There is a Frogge cemetery there, but upon searching for William Frogge in that cemetery, he is not to be found there, so I would go with the Find a Grave source that says he died in Monroe Co., West Virginia. Any other sources to proved differently would be appreciated. Last Changed: May 17, 2022
Burial • • 1804 United States Reason This Information Is Correct: Prior entries recorded the burial place as Frogge Cemetery in Fentress County, Tennessee, but there are no sources to confirm that he is buried there; I changed the burial place to the United States. There is a Frogge Cemetery in Pall Mall, Fentress, Tennessee, but William Frogg or Frogge does not have a memorial tied to that cemetery. If someone provides a photo of his grave from this location or any other location, the place of burial could be updated. William Frogg's Find a Grave Memorial shows that he died in Monroe Co., West Virginia in 1804, so that is the death date that I have recorded here. Any other sources to prove that this is different would be appreciated. Last Changed: August 11, 2022

Frogge Chapel lies within a strip of land once claimed by both TN and KY. In 1799 Cumberland Co KY claimed it as did Smith Co TN. In 1820 the strip of land officially became TN, so Frogge Chapel was now in Overton Co TN (Jackson Co was formed from Smith in 1801; Overton Co was formed from Jackson in 1806). In 1823, when Fentress Co TN was formed from Overton, Frogge Chapel was then situated within its boundaries.
So it would seem that William Frogge went from TN to KY and back to TN without ever packing a suitcase. If he died in 1804, he died in Cumberland Co, KY (or Jackson Co, TN); if he died in 1820, he died in Overton Co, TN. At any rate, if he is buried behind Frogge Chapel, he is buried in present day Fentress Co TN.
