I have enjoyed and studied American history ever since early grade school. In 1989, I was amazed to learn that documented history was tied to my family tree . One branch of this tree is my "Babcock" line which is now mostly complete and mostly confirmed to my satisfaction. This has been an interesting journey which produced many additional branches of relatives to trace. This information should be valuable to others to tap into for the benefit of their families. My "Babcock" branch begins with my grandmother Blanch(e) Eva (Babcock) Ling. She and grandpa Joel Ling were wonderful people, whom I knew and loved. Of course when I knew grandma, I knew nothing about the long, amazing, interesting line of ancestors until after her passing in the year 1969. In 1989, my Uncle Warren Ling made a presentation at a family reunion in which he revealed in detail, his knowledge and discoveries about our Babcock family. His presentation re-inspired my interest greatly, but Uncle Warren passed away after I was just getting started. I used notes from his presentation and began researching sources well beyond. Using libraries, family interviews, (7th day) Baptist information, Utah Mormon "Latter Day Saints" and everything else, diligently digging. This journey began well before the internet or internet tools existed. Jumping into the internet era, it has been somewhat easier to find and confirm "Babcock" information. My research has produced 36 direct heads of families who immigrated to America before the year 1660 , and I have traced them all. Through "Mormon" sources (and others) there are three direct family surnames (not Babcock) I traced deep into "English Royalty". Once anyone can tie into "English Royalty", written records already exist, just keep following those sources to amazing finds. It has been easy and fun tracing my family surnames into "English Royalty", just following discovering where it takes you in history. "Ancestry dot com", (and others) have taken over some of my former free sources and there are now fees for access, which still exist but puts limits to visits. I am actively researching my four grandparents genealogy. These are the surnames McCann, Babcock, Lashbrook and Ling.
Babcock mainline information was handed down by my grandmother Blanch Eva Ling to her seven children before her passing. After this, her son (my uncle Warren Joel Ling b. 1924) took his notes and other sources, confirmed them and wrote them down. He passed his work on to the rest of the family at a reunion in the year 1989. I took these notes and have been continually expanding and confirming them ever since. Blanch(e) Eva Babcock was born in 1892 in a sod hut on the flat prairie of Nebraska. Her father Wilbur Babcock was born in 1859 in Ohio, he married his cousin Laura Babcock born in 1863. Both of these great grandparents of mine have been traced back to Thomas Babcock Jr. the origination of both branches. Thomas was born in 1759 in New Jersey but, his ancestors trace back to Rhode Island and James Badcock/Babcock (born in 1612). I personally have traced these records prior to the internet and visited several places my ancestors were along the east coast. Today, the internet tools make it much easier than it used to be, I have researched the amazing "Seventh Day Baptist Records"; many of my relatives belonged to this organization. I have confirmed through the "Latter Day Saints" records in Utah and many other sources. Another excellent source is "The Babcock Genealogy" written by Stephen Babcock. Next, I use Ancestry.com.
Wilbur's Line: Simeon b. 1826, b. New Jersey, d. Ohio William b. 1789, b. New Jersey, d. Ohio Thomas Jr. b.1759, b. New Jersey d. Ohio
Laura's Line: Joshua G. 1825, b. W.V. d. Ohio Joel C. 1799, West Virginia, Ohio Thomas Jr. 1759, New Jersey, Ohio
Merging both lines with Thomas Jr. b. 1759 then:
Thomas Sr. 1709, Rhode Island, New Jersey Col. Oliver 1683, Rhode Island, Rhode Island John Babcock 1644, Rhode Island, Rhode Island James Badcock/Babcock born in 1612, Wivenhoe, Essex, England, all confirmed.

Or you can merge. Thanks

So we can resolve the needed merge.
Thanks much!
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Welcome to WikiTree! Please check more carefully before creating profiles. I've found several profiles you've created for people who are already here. I've proposed merges for three of them so far. Thanks!
You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree. Thank you for volunteering, and we like family stories! Lashbrook is not a common name here, we have only 76 of them on the tree now, so we're counting on you to fatten that branch. ;-)
Have fun and ask for help if you need it. WikiTree members are always eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist.
If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems. See you in the branches

Wikitree is one BIG world-wide family tree that is freely accessible to everyone. Our goal is to have one profile per person which means we all work together as a BIG friendly and polite collaborative team!
If you are interested in sharing your research and want to collaborate to add your family, please fill out the TAGS on your profile page and click SAVE TAG(s) AND VOLUNTEER.
Your Tags can include names like JOHNSON (a surname) or NEW_ZEALAND (a location) and a comment explaining why this subject interests you. Once you choose to Volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you'll be on your way! Welcome to the Family!
