Biography

Elizabeth Moulton was born at Scratby, Norfolk, in 1610; records for Scratby were kept at neighboring Ormesby[1], where Elizabeth's christening was registered on the 22nd of July.

Robert Charles Anderson, in a 1993 piece in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, identifies her as Elizabeth Moulton, wife of Henry Skerry of Yarmouth, citing an unusual and singular 1633 Bishop's Visitation record from one of the Ormesby churches.[2] That entry, on a page otherwise blank, reads,

He: Scurry de Yar:
Eliz: Moulton of Ormesby
a license granted by Dr. Bing [decanatus?]
to Hensby these parties married by Mr.
Burdett in Ormesby church without license
Mr. Tilney refused to [send?] the license

Anderson summarizes that "in or about 1633, Henry Scurry of Yarmouth was married to Elizabeth Moulton of Ormesby, at one of the Ormesby churches", and – after citing further evidence including placement of the Moulton family aboard ship with Henry Skerry, Sr., wife Elizabeth, and son Henry, Jr. in 1637 – offers the rather conservative conclusion that Elizabeth Moulton of Ormesby is "an excellent candidate for the wife of Henry Skerry".

Having set sail from Yarmouth in April, Henry and Elizabeth would have arrived at Salem before the beginning of the summer of 1637. Henry is recorded as a freeman there the following March; the Skerrys remained at Salem for the rest of their lives. Widowed on the penultimate day of 1691, Elizabeth (Moulton) Skerry lived on only until early March of 1693.

Father Robert is identified in the FreeReg UK bp. transcript (I've just updated the link; click on the "View 1" button to see the full record -- one can no longer, for some reason, link to the detailed record directly from outside the site).

The marriage of "Roberte Moulton" to Mary Smyth is recorded at Hemsby -- a mile north of Ormsby St. Margaret -- in 1595; see top item at https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_queries/5e5412fa4325a669d6291576?locale=en . I will add that m. record to this profile and that of the parents.

Why are we changing her to Moulton? I don't see it here.

Christopher, PGM leaders, in this instance, are the only PMs and they are able to change LNAB.
LNAB change can only be done by a PM

[Or can the LNAB change only be done by a Project leader??]

My direct ancestress. Per Chris Hoyt's comment on Henry, Sr.'s, profile, and the 1993 Anderson NEHGR piece it cites, I intend to change the LNAB of Unknown-376297 to Moulton; concerns and/or objections? [Or, Chris, would you like to do the honors? -- having done the sleuthing...]
