Biography

My name is Yvonne (known as Evie). I was born on the 29th May 1968 in Redlands Hospital in Glasgow. My birth parents were Radnor Clark Porter (Born 29th October 1947) and Christina MacTear Rae (Born 11th May 1949).

My mother and her brother (James Donaldson Rae) were in Bridge of Weir Orphanage (Renfrewshire) from 1952. Their mother Sara May Dunbar Rae died leaving Ronald Rae to look after the children - which he was unable to do.

My mother met and fell for the local bad boy, Radnor. His family were neighbours on Blackthorn Street in Glasgow. I was the result of that dalliance. He did marry my mother when I was about 15 months old, but in name only (My mother reports at that time a wife couldn't testify against a husband). Radnor was a violent criminal - though of course had a charming side for others. By 1973, my mother and I moved from the West Coast to the East Coast of Scotland.

I got into tracing the family tree when my mother died in 2010. As she was in an orphanage we never knew any of her family. Neither did I know anyone on my father's side. My mother didn't tell me about Radnor until I was 17 ...and she made me promise not to track him down. Nine years later I did meet him - though this turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life.

I had no idea who my family was or where my roots were and it became very important to fill in the blanks. I still have a lot to learn and lots of missing info, and many questions, like were the Rae's (my mother's side) formerly McRaes, or is that a family myth?

Incidentally, both my birth parents are now deceased. I found out Radnor died in 2008 and my mother died in 2010.

Then there is the unknown about the Irish connection - apparently my DNA show around 74 %. So lots still to do, lots to learn, but the knowledge to share too.

I am knowledgeable about the Bridge of Weir Orphanage/ and the policy of sending orphans to the New World - indeed I have written a fictional account of this occurrence.

Note: Names may become confused here: An explanation is provided below. My biological father's name was Porter. This is the name on my birth certificate though to my knowledge I was never known as Porter. My mum used her maiden name Rae, and I was known as Yvonne Rae until around the mid 70's (though probably again not legally. During the 70's while I was at Primary school I remember having to tell the school my name had changed to Langtree. This was never a legal adoption, but it was my Step father's name. For the rest of my single, adult life I was known as Yvonne Langtree, until I married Arthur Keddie and became Mrs. Keddie. When I divorced from Toni's father, I wanted a name that was personal to me. I adopted my mother's maiden name again, but added the Mc in respect of my ancestors who had been McRaes until about four generations ago (according to my uncle though I have not found evidence of this yet). It was also to reflect my pride in being Scottish. Even when married to my second husband, I never used his surname George ... I kept the name McRae. It is also my professional writer's name. My gran on my step father's side used to call me Evie for short, and Australians seemed to naturally shorten my name to Evie, or Eve. My family often call me Von. 2 2 Now some more notes re emigration and travel. Born in Glasgow, then when I was young moved to Kidd Street in Kirkcaldy Fife (with my mum Christina McTear Rae/Porter). Then to Barnton Road, Dunnikier Estate, Kirkcaldy, then Powfoot Road. In my 20's all over the place and moves to England - Colchester in 1996. In 2002 emigrated to Sydney Australia. After 9 or 10 years came back to UK - supposedly for 2 years but Peter loved UK so much we have stayed on for 4 years (2015)... We were in rural Ascot area - lovely, then Uxbridge for our sins (because Peter worked there), then on to Harrow ...(not a fan). We moved back to Australia in 2015. . 2

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page. Michelle ~ WikiTree Mentor

Hello, Yvonne -

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you've ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you'd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you'll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you'll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We're really glad you're here.

- Bryan
