Adrianus Thijs (abt. 1784 - 1828)

Adriaan Thijs is geboren in Noord-Brabant in 1784

Biography

Adriaan was born on or just before 25 September 1784 in Leende in the Netherlands as child of Willem Thijs and Peternel Thijs - Martinus. He was baptized on 25 September 1784 in the Roman Catholic church of Leende.^[1]

On 19 January 1812 he married Jacoba Swinkels. The marriage took place in Leende.^[2] They had six children, of whom four survived until adulthood:

1. Wilhelmina Arts - Thijs (1812-1853)
2. Martinus Thijs (1813-1862)
3. Peter Thijs (1816-1832)
4. Joannes Thijs (1819-1865)
5. Maria Verbeek - Thijs (1822-1872)
6. a stillborn daughter (1825-1825)

Adriaan was a farmer.^[2][3]

His wife Jacoba passed away in 1825, leaving Adriaan a widower.^[4] Adriaan passed away on 21 July 1828 in Leende at the age of 43.^[3]

Research Notes

• Adriaan was baptized on 25 September 1784.^[1] In these times children were baptized as soon after birth as possible, to prevent that the child would die unbaptized (and could not go to heaven). Hence Adriaan would have been born on 25 September 1784 or in the days before.
• The following name variants are used for Adriaan:
  • Adrianus Thijs on his baptism registration (Latin).^[1]
  • Adrien Thys on his marriage certificate (French).^[2]
  • Adriaan Thijs on his death certificate (Dutch).^[3]
