Biography

Mathurin Thébeau was born 12 Apr 1747. He was the son of Jacques-François Thebeau and Anne Melanson. He was baptized the day of his birth at Saint Charles des Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadia. His godparents were Charles Hebert and Osithe Leblanc.[1][2]

When he was a child, his family fled their home in the Great Upheaval of 1755. They made their way to northern New Brunswick, where he likely met Catherine Duval, whose family had likely fled Port LaJoie (near Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) around 1758. According to Placide Gaudet, Catherine was an Amerindian. Others found on family trees include: Marie (2), Barbe, and Etienne.

Mathurin (22) married Catherine Duval (19) (born in Caraquet, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia) in 1770.

Their known children were[2] :

  1. Anne (1770)
  2. Madeleine Thibault (about 1776 – before Nov 1830) .
  3. Charlotte Thebeau (Dec 29 1776 – unknown) .
  4. Pierre Thibeau (Mar 24 1783 – unknown) .
  5. Marie Christine Thebault-thebeau (Oct 10 1793 – unknown) .
  6. Barbe Thebeau-thebault (1794 – unknown) .
  7. Helene Thebault (about 1795 – before 1840)

Mathurin was godfather to Mathurin Grant, son of his daughter Anne, in 1776. He was note as grandfather.[3]

Mathurin died at the beginning of October 1813 in the Caraquet mission, as noted in the register (no specific date given), and the burial ceremony was implemented on October 24, 1813 in Caraquet, New Brunswick.[4] Were present René Chiasson and Joseph Poulin. His wife was not listed as deceased in the record.

Thébeau-141 and Thébault-23 appear to represent the same person because: Same name. Thébeau is standard Acadian LNAB, PPP will be added to use this name in the merge. Same spouse, same marriage year estimated in both profiles. Daughter Anne is same in both profiles as evidenced by her husbands last name, same.

Yes, Diane. They are duplicates. Thank you for finding and calling them to my attention. I proposed the merge for him, the duplicate wife, and one duplicate child. Cindy

Hi,

Mathurin Thebault was buried in Caraquet (St-Pierre-aux-Liens) on Oct 24 1813, but he died sometime at the beginning of October.

Source: Ancestry sources, Acadia, Canada, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1757-1946, for Mathurin Thébault. Record states " décédé en cette région de Caraquet au commencement du courant, âgé de 63 ans" - translation "died in this region of Caraquet at the beginning of the current month, at the age of 63"

Thank you. His daughter Anne was not yet on WikiTree so I made a profile for her and also added this source to his profile and Catherines profile. You are always welcome to create and edit profiles too :)

Thebeau-140 and Thébeau-141 appear to represent the same person because: Same dates, same spouse. Merging into Thébeau, standard spelling used by the Acadians Project.

Dear PM's, would one of you fix his LNAB to be only one name. It should be the standard Acadian spelling Thébeau. All the other names can go in other last names.

Thank you. Cindy
