Will

Rudolphus van der Linde, yeoman of Hackinsack, in the county of Bergen, in New Jersey, made his will on 6 September 1709. His wife Rachel was still living; she was to have free living on the farm or Plantation where Rudophus was living, plus £25 in money, firewood, and pasture for a cow. His daughters Claarje and Margaretie were each to have an equal portion when married. All real estate, houses, and lands were to go to sons Peter and Henry. Eldest son Peter was to have choice of the testator's two plantations or farms, either the one where Rudolphus was living or the plantation or farm called Tappan. He said "I appraise my dwelling house and plantation where I now live at £300, and the Plantation or farm at Tappan, at £100." The sons were "to pay to my daughters Vechtie, Claarje, Geesye, and Marytie, one-sixth of the appraised value." Son Peter was to have his father's gun "as an allowance for his birthright." The will named his brothers-in-law Andrew Van Buskirk of Mingschsquai and Cornelius Blinkerhoff of Comunipaw as executors. Witnesses were William Barent, Simon Brestie, and John Conrad Godwin. A negro boy named Augustine was to be free and to be sent to New York or London for his training as a carpenter or cooper and to have 20 pounds for his tools. The will was proved on 13 February 1709/10. [4]
