Biography

This Anthony Winston was born about 1725 in Hanover to Isaac Winston & Sarah Thomas, they moved to North Carolina with Sarah Thomas's widowed mother, Hannah ( ) Thomas & other of her sibblings.

This Isaac Winston was a son of the 1st Anthony (born about - 1675 New Kent & d in 1719 Hanover.

His will is abstracted - Stephen E. Bradley, Franklin County, North Carolina Will Book A 1785-1797 (South Boston, Virginia, Stephen E. Bradley, Jr., 1988).


Anthony Winston's birth and birthplace is not known. He may have been born about 1720. In 1771 Anthony was on the taxable list for Bute County, North Carolina; Anthony Winston and 2 sons John and Isaac, one Black; 4 total. George Winston, likely his brother, constable in Goodloe's District, is listed next. George is exempt from taxes. [1] Anthony Winston likely died in 1786 in Franklin County, North Carolina where his will was probated.

Anthony Winston, son of Isaac Winston (Anthony, Anthony, William) and Sarah THOMAS was born ca. 1710-1720 in Virginia. He died 11 November 1786 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He married Mary BECK ca. 1740. She was the daughter of Moses BECK of Halifax County, North Carolina. She was born ca. 1710 and died sometime after his death in 1786.

Anthony was a Patriot of the American Revolution.

According to one source Anthony lived at one time two miles from the Tar River Bridge near Springfield Plantation in Franklin County, North Carolina. Later he seems to have lived nearer Youngsville. In 1790 Anthony Winston bought eight hundred acres of land on both sides of Brandy Creek from Joseph McGehee. In 1778 he conveyed 364 acres of land on Richland Creek to his son Isaac. According to his Will, his son Moses was to get the homeplace after the death of his wife, Mary.

His Will dated November 1786 and proved in June Court 1787 names his wife, Mary; sons John, Isaac, and Moses; daughter Sarah High and son-in-law Robert High.

Anthony was born about 1710. He passed away in 1786. He wrote his will on 14 Nov 1786 (so the death date of 11 Nov 1786 is impossible. The will was probated in Jun 1787 so he died before that date.
