DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Judith or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Judith:

Hi Judith.

You are using the same "word source" for Pre-1700 profiles, but not reference links to the actual documents. Anything Pre-1700 must have a reliable source, which means, more information than "Will of so and so" or "So and so's Collection." Can you go back through and link this verbage to actual reliable sources (along with your other profiles), so we can see that this information has been proven? I added a source with a link to Stubbs-4664. Here is the link to England Project's sourcing guidelines. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England_Project_Reliable_Sources You may want to consider downloading the WikiTree Sourcer app that can build sources for you.

Thanks!

John

Hello, Judith!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s VERY IMPORTANT to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Welcome to WikiTree and DNA.

My name is John Kingman. I am a Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project.

Since you have started following a DNA tag, you may be interested in how you can use DNA test matches with your relatives to strengthen your genealogy on WikiTree. You will find the answers in the Help pages, of which the DNA Help category page shows all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started with DNA page is highlighted. Also the DNA Features page can show you various ways that DNA tests can work with your genealogy. For a detailed guide to connecting DNA test results to WikiTree profiles via GEDmatch, look here.

You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" on your profile if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of an acceptable DNA match. You may find that you have acceptable matches with some of them. There is more information about DNA Connections on the DNA Test Connections page.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the Confirmed with DNA help page. Also, I strongly recommend using the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker WikiTree app for creating and/or validating your DNA confirmation source citations. Note that a profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source citations for both genealogy and relevant DNA test matches.

If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation". There are lots of folks willing to help.

Happy WikiTree-ing!

hi thanks for the welcome. I have tried to upload the gedcom file but its too big. I am not tech savvy so solutions in the Q&A seem a bit complicated.

Hi, Judith

These tips might help you get started.

  • I see you added the DNA Tested badge.  This page lists information to add your DNA kit and work with it on WikiTree: How to Get Started with DNA.
  • At the top of this page, you see SURNAME entered.  Click the magnifying glass, and you get a list of all SURNAME profiles on WikITree, and you can sort alphabetically or by birth or death dates to see if family members are already on WikiTree.  You can repeat this for each surname you are researching or add a first name to see all the profiles on WikITree.
  • You could download a gedcom from a site or program you have entered your family and upload it to WikiTree for the GEDCOMpare process.  This page lists gedcom links for more information: Gedcom Topics. Start with the splitting Gedcom page and the other topics as needed. You might want to start with a small number from your immediate family to grandparents for the first gedcom load and GEDCOMpare process.
  • You might want to set up a free account on FamilySearch.org and research to see if your ancestor is there.  The FamilySearch records are outstanding and sometimes attached to the person on their FamilySearch profile, which can list parents, spouses, and children to help you get started.

I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Take care  ~ Sheryl ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hi Judith,

We are so pleased you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
