William Coxe was a Jamestown colonist.

William Coxe[1] was born approximately (1584-1598, in England, according to Genealogy.com and two other sources). [2] [3] William Cox is mentioned as being about twelve years of age in one source. [4] This source [5] shows William on the Jamestown arrival list. [6][7] [8]

Three ships, the Discovery, Susan Constant, and the Godspeed left the England port for America. The Reverand Simeon Oliver Coxe (1877-1955) made an extensive study of the Coxe-Hutchins-Burt on families along the James River in Virginia. After his death his son Simeon Jr. assisted Mrs. Nellie M. Knox of Loveland, Colorado, with data for a supplement to her earlier edition of The History and Genealogy of the John Pleasants Burton Family of Lawrence County, Indiana.
While gleaning through his father's file he became interested in carrying on the family research and proceeded to analyze the land grants and patents in Henrico County as recorded in Cavaliers and Pioneers. These grants and patents were plotted on topographic maps to show the location and relationship of the various lands along the James River. In comparing land ownership and movements of owners he was able to piece together the information which he included in a publication printed in 1964 and revised in 1992. On August 24, 1995, Simeon Jr. lived in a retirement home in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
After long and detailed research, Simeon Jr. noted that there have been several articles written about the relationship of the Coxe-Hutchins-Burton families, but due to the scarcity of ancient records, they are largely based on conjecture and circumstantial evidence. He notes that although his papers do not have much additional hard data to present, they do have much better circumstantial evidence to support the conclusions stated. Members of these families were all adjacent or nearby land owners in the "Lilley Valley" and "Fallen Creek" areas of Henrico and in the Strawberry Bank community of Elizabeth City. The chronology of events and then early simultaneous movements of individuals and their interactions in land transactions point to a very close family relationship which can best be explained as noted in this publication.
There has been a lot of speculation as to the Christian and family names of the wife of John Burton and the names of the wife of his son Richard Burton. Some give the Christian name of John's wife as Rachel because that was the name of his second daughter and the name Rachel was used in the Howchins family of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co VA, where some assume John obtained his bride. New Kent records do not show a Rachel of the age to be the wife of John Burton but some assume that Edward Howchins, father of Rachel baptized in 1686 in St. Peter's Parish, might have had an unknown sister named Rachel, who married John Burton.
Moreover, it was then the custom to name the eldest daughter after the mother. If they followed this custom the wife of John Burton was named Mary. The Burton families and the Coxe families were intermingled in land transactions along the James River which presents the good possibility that Mary Coxe, daughter of William Coxe of Strawberry Banks and probably granddaughter of Robert Hutchins, was the wife of John Burton. If she were his wife it would account for the use of the Hutchins Burton name for the grandson of John Burton.

Research them more. Could be both sets of parents are wrong. Read Adventurers of Purse and Person and Cavaliers and Pioneers, John Cox was his father, not sure which profile is more suited. I believe his mother was Elizabeth, not sure of maiden name. Elizabeth Hutchins was his wife. Marriage: Elizabeth HUTCHINS b: ABT 1612 in England

Children Thomas COXE John COX b: ABT 1640 in Henrico Co., VA Elizabeth COXE Mary COXE

Work with me Scott. At least investigate.

Coxe-243 and Cox-1146 do not represent the same person because: Although Cox-1146 has a similar biography, Cox 1146 has different father, mother, does not have the same children as well death place is different from Cox-243. Not the same person.

I have corrected the info. on Cox-1146. I saw your post afterward. I have been working on connecting Elizabeth Hutchins. It is written about in Adventurers of Purse and Person.

I would like to recommend a correction in the text above that states "Both William COXE and his wife were deceased, before Dec 14, 1665."

I think this should match the other sections in the document that cite the year as 1656. (I will be happy to upload the original image of Peter Lee's deed when I can self-certify for Pre-1700s edits).

I appreciate Mary's prompt reply although I realize I may not have been clear in my original request. I am interested to ask the community if there are any ideas on primary source material for William's marriage to Elizabeth Hutchins. I would be interested to find a record for this connection and appreciate any assistance that can be offered from the group. Thank you.

To all PM's I replied to Henry via WikiTree email with the sources he requested.. Since there are many of us, cannot speak for all sources.. I had concentrated on connecting him to Jamestown and the ship that sailed, etc.

Also left the new link preferred sources for Pre-1700 profiles for him.

What specific evidence can be shown for William's marriage to Elizabeth "Hutchins" in 1633? AP&P notes he married someone named Elizabeth, but Henrico County marriage records do not appear to be available for this time period so I question how the date and her maiden name have been determined here.
posted on Cox-509 (merged) by Henry Gurley
The listed parents are utterly fanciful and should be disconnected. There is no evidence for his parents whatsoever. The "usual suspect" guess is that he was some sort of relative of the Elizabeth Cox who was in the party of Lord De La Warr. Its a pure guess.

To all, there has been a lot of discussion for this man. After this merge, I have taken it upon myself to neaten the profile up. If anyone disagrees they may see changes to change.. There is one large block pertaining only to son, John Cox, so I moved it to his profile. I have moved some questionable data way down to the bottom. As I am unsure "where it came from.

Someone doubted William's parents. That was my addition, and I got it on ancestry.com. However this time also referenced it to a roots web source. I have no idea where his sibs came from (but not from my addition) Thanks. ~mary

I believe James is correct. The dates fit William Cox (or Coxe) as documented in Dorman, 4th edition, but I'm not sure where the parents/siblings come from. I am going to change those to "uncertain" and consider this William Coxe as the one discussed in the chapter beginning p. 727 in Dorman.

Cox-509 seems to be a merge candidate with Cox-1146.

Wifes name is identical, and a merge is reasonable for Hutchins-69 & Hutchins-146.

Bio for Cox-509 is extensive, quite a history lesson, birth dates on the two profiles differ by 14 yrs. Actually a source on Cox-509 suggests birth date of 1598, which is listed on Cox-1146. and death dates are different. However it look like same family group. Number and names of children differ, but the 3 sons names are the same, Thomas, Henry, John Mary and Elizabeth should have profiles checked also. I'm not a manager of either Cox or Hutchins. Would be happy to assist on Cox if approved, Thanks in advance Marty
