Biography

Name : Jean Davids[1]

Jan David and Esther Vincent had their daughter Anna baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York, on 2 October 1687. The record was annotated "They are French people." It is likely that they were Huguenot immigrants to New York.

This man was never born in Montréal, the David men who were at any time in early Montréal, can be found listed on page 158 of this catalog: La population de la région de Montréal; 7, 3, 1 Liste nominative: les immigrants Base de données - Les premiers Montréalais, Yvon Sicotte PDF

There is also a question as to the linked daughter, Marguerite, whose dob is actually for the daughter of Guillaume David, who did go to New Netherlands after being in Canada, New France for some years.

I removed the PPP from this profile (which was there due to confusion with a completely different family in Kingston, New York), so you can deal with the Marguerite profile.

Research is needed to determine what we actually know about this man and his wife. I think it very likely, based on the date and place of the baptism recorded here, that he was a Huguenot. I have no idea about Huguenots stopping off in Montréal before going to New York.

lol, be very certain that none of them stopped in Montréal back in 1645; Montréal was founded in 1642, by an extremely Catholic group of people. You can put the PPP back on, am PC so it's not a problem. Am transferring Marguerite to her proper parents. Still working on those, but once I finish you may want to look at them to see if they fit in your project. No evidence of their being Huguenot, but they definitely moved to New Holland.

This profile is a duplicate for Davids-114 -- not related to the Davids-Davis family of Kingston, New York. I will merge the profile and the profile for his wife.

Disconnecting him from Martensen-2, these people were a French family and not related to Christopher Davis' family.

Sister Arriantje was born in New York and Jean was born in Montreal the same year?
Davids-114 and Davids-131 appear to represent the same person because: These seem to be the same person who came from France to Canada to Ulster County, New York with other French Huguenots.

Was this Jean Davids a French Huguenot, or was it the other Jean Davids on this site?
