Biography

Note: Keep in mind that there are two William Fletchers born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts in 1673. This William was born on 23 October 1673, and married Mary Foster on 26 May 1716. The other William Fletcher (abt.1673-abt.1744) was born on 1 January 1673, and married Mary Fletcher on 10 December 1701.

William Fletcher Marriages to Mary

William was born on 23 October 1673 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. He was the son of Samuel Fletcher (abt.1652-bef.1723) and Hannah (Wheeler) Fletcher (abt.1654-1697).[1][2]

William married Mary Foster, probably born there, about 1682, and who died 13 Dec 1721 in Chelmsford,[3] aged thirty-nine, possibly a daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Keyes) Foster, and sister of Moses Foster, on (intentions) 26 May 1716 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America.[4]

William married secondly Mary Banks Powers on (intentions) 18 October 1724 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. She was born there, 7 January 1670, living 1738, daughter of John and Hannah (---) Bank and widow of William Power. [5][6]

William died (age 79) on 7 January 1753 in Westford, Massachusetts.[7] He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Westford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.[8]

He was, perhaps, the William Fletcher on the south list of Westford rates in 1730; signed the covenant in 1727 for that church, and, with Nathaniel Longley, owned land now known as Brookside. It is difficult, at times, to distinguish him from his first cousin once-removed, Lt. William Fletcher, born 1 January 1673, hence several months the younger. This is also true of his land records.

Fletcher-1211 and Fletcher-410 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person, born 23 Oct 1673 in Chelmsford, died 7 Jan 1753 in Westford, aged 79 yrs 2 mos. See Chelmsford V.R. p. 62 and Westford V.R. p. 281

Fletcher-2129 and Fletcher-1211 do not represent the same person because: William Fletcher(1211) born on October 23, 1673 is the son of Samuel (b. 1652) and Hannah Wheeler (b. about 1651). This William married Mary Foster and died in Westford 7 Jan 1753. William 1211 should be matched to William-410

Fletcher-2129 and Fletcher-1211 appear to represent the same person because: There are many William Fletcher's in this area at this time, and having a wife named Mary does not narrow things down much, but I think this is the same person. I will look at the two Mary's now...
