Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
Could you please take a look at Turbill-27 for whom you are PM.
This profile has some minor typographical errors that are raising database error messages, but we are not able to correct them as you have the profile locked.
Could you please either unlock it, correct the errors or add me to the trusted list and I'll correct them.
No relation at all, I'm just one of the background boys who works on cleaning up profiles with mistakes on them.
This particular error is reported as DBE870 - missing refname definition.
If you look at the profile it is obvious that the error is with citation #4 which just has an arrow and no text to identify what it is meant to be.
Checking the changes log I can see that the error came about on 1 Oct last year when the refname definition was deleted.
That citation does not actually need a refname, just a standard inline reference would be much better, and span type references are far less used than they used to be. The fix is to go to the edit page on the profile, delete the citation that says:
<ref name="Our Mountain and Glens"/>
and replace it with the original text:
<ref>Our Mountain and Glens: The History of River Denys, Big Brook, and Lime Hill (North Side), Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Rita Heuser Farrell Publication, 1993</ref>
As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

So far so good. The learning curve is steep. I would like to suggest a few changes: 1) Add the Gaelic language as a choice; 2) When a check is done to see if a person already exists, the place of birth (or origin) should be one of the criteria. This would greatly reduce the number of persons to check against. I've seen quite a number of these and they are simply troublesome. Apart from dates they provide no context as to where the person is from, England, Wales, Scotland, Australia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, just nothing.
Yours, Luc
Thank you, Luc, for your suggestions and I will pass them up the line for consideration. I hope you continue to enjoy WikiTree - I think it is totally worth the learning curve and I hope you will too.
Please ask if you have any questions - we are all here to help.
Thanks for joining Wikitree. I tried to run the Relationship Finder to discover our connection, but your profile is private (which is fine).
If you would like to see our connection, you can go to Find > Relationship and plug in my profile (Mills-4919) for an easy way to trace the intersection of our family lines.
I don't know if you've found it yet, but Eugene Quigley has been working on a MacQuarrie page tracing back to their origins on the Isle of Rum (aka Rhum). The paper trail is extremely limited pre-immigration, but Eugene has done a great job using the available data to try to establish the different family lines. Here is the page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:MacQuarrie_Families_Project
Also, thank you for taking the time to upload your GEDCOM data carefully. In some families, the GEDCOM data is out of date and it can create many duplicate entries or merges sometimes overwrite the more up to date data. Your careful approach to uploading and checking the data is much appreciated.
My focus is on the Mills family in New Brunswick at the moment, but I'm happy to share MacQuarrie info as well.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Mills

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.
It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Thanks Karen. I have actually been following this site quite closely and have finally decided to import some of my data into it. I have about 75,000 names in my database. Some overlap with the site; but many do not. I have decided to start small and have imported ancestral data from my maternal great-grandmother, Katherine Anne Cummings. Depending on how it goes, I will try importing ancestral data from my maternal great grandfather, John Miles (or Myles).
You are very welcome, Luc, and glad that you have joined, if you use the Chrome broweser, they have an extension you can get WikiTree X, which is very good, and a bit quicker than the GEDCOMs.
I hope you get on ok, any problems, please let Wendy or I know
