Over the past 40 years I have chosen to remain sane by maintaining one version of our Fryrear family tree, and I have used Ancestry as the repository for this tree. Here in WikiTree I have only built my immediate paternal descent. Now, given a broader experience with other WikiTree researchers and growing comfort with the organization and capabilities of this framework, I plan to expand my involvement, particularly with a focus on pre-1840 Kentucky and Virginia family links.

Biography

I have been working on Fryrear and allied family genealogy since the 1960's , first relying on public records such as census data, but later exploring the family background in Kentucky and Virginia via research trips. I have build a substantial annotated tree in Ancestry. A Loudoun County, Virginia trip in 2021 allowed me to uncover and document one generation earlier on the Fryrear family of the early to late 1700s. I have recently turned my attention to post-Civil War expansion of one part of the family within the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma (now, primarily Grady County). In 2022 my main research focus is: * Chickasaw migration from Mississippi and earlier background around Tupelo, * Early Virginia, Maryland and Kentucky antestors.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Rick or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Rick:

Hello Rick! I saw you added the black heritage tag and wanted to stop by to let you know we have a project at WikiTree to support your work with documenting slave owners and the enslaved they held. I did add a sticker and categories to John Fryrear's profile. In Edit mode you can see the code for the African American Sticker, which we place on all profiles of those with US black heritage.

We are here to help, so please feel free to reach out. We have several help pages that can be found on our main project page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:US_Black_Heritage
