Hi, the story of our family if sometime a bit shady but interesting,,, Louis and Theotiste where second degree cousin if I remember well and they were relateed by their mother side also. There is a name for this on this site... But obviously about anybody coming from the french side of Quebec is some way or another

They were not many people and we have been cut from a lot of interactions with the European world for about two hundred years. We married a bit with americans though... but not on the Gelinas side. I see that this profile is not managed by Sylvie. Anyone who still manage it is welcome to get in touch with me

Hi Sylvie

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

The Canada and France Projects may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

I'm researching the Gelinas line and found Marguerite Marie Benoit whose parents were Pierre Benoist/Benoit and Francoise Lamontagne, however, further research showed Gabriel Benoit/Benoist and Marie Anne Guedon as her parents. Which parent is correct? I didn't find hardly any info on Pierre and his wife.

I got the information from the Quebec Canada archives...unfortunately my computer is being fixed at the moment so I can't asnswer your question. The Quebec archives are free . I will look up the english link and send it to you. Also a lot of my information on the Gelinas line came from a published book I found on line many years ago. That book starts with Eli le Juif and for my branch ends at my paternal great grandfather Leon Gelinas. So working from that book and the Quebec archives is how I got the information for the Gelinas line.

Yourfolks.com is the english version of the Quebec archives.

Ok just checked and Marguerite Marie Benoit whose parents were Pierre Benoist/Benoit and Francoise Lamontagne is correct if she is married to Etienne Gelinas. Am going to check what i can find on Gabriel Benoit/Benoist and Marie Anne Guedon.

Is where you can find a copy of the published Gelinas ancestry

Marguerite was the daughter of Gabriel Benoist and Marie-Annne Guedon... Pierre Benoist was her brother... But they were not many people at the time so it is possible a part of you ascent are directly related to Pierre also....

Many Thanks from my family to Jillaine Smith (G2G). I had been at a stand still for my mother's mother's side of the family tree. The main database I have been working from had incorrect records and without anything to go on it was tough finding information and records. One post and Jillian got me the break I've been needing. Absolutely amazing. Thank you again from the Gelinas family.
I would like to take the time to publicly thank Robert Gelinas whom I met several years ago at www.ancestry.com

He took the time to answer a post from me when I only knew my immediate family and one great grand parent. He took the time to email me and sent me the invaluable material that started me on this journey. I lost this wonderful man's email when my old desktop short circuited. I know he has helped many people on that web site so I wanted to acknowledge him here. Of note: he sent me photos of a trip he and his wife made to Quebec and this man looked so much like my father that they could have been brothers yet our family trees converge in the 1700's - uncanny but cool.

Hi Two Week Member!

How are things going? A couple of tips for you as you add to your tree. If you find a duplicate profile, and complete a merge, all the information from one merge is copied into the new combined profile. Please go in and edit the Biography section remove "duplicate" information.

If you don't have a last or first name, note the related information in the related profile's biography section until additional information is found rather than creating an unknown profile.

If you don't have a date or place of birth, at least try and estimate that information and note that it is an estimate in the Bio section.

And lastly, source as you go, because if you're like me, you won't remember where you found the info.

I am a mentor and here to help so let me know! Nae

My name is Sylvie Gelinas. I was born in Quebec and now reside in British Columbia Canada. I got hooked on discovering our family and building our tree when my niece asked me, several years ago, about our family. This is fun for me and definitely has become a hobby. My mother has appointed me as the unofficial historian for our family. Am looking forward to sharing and learning more.
I am the unofficial family historian for my immediate family. I started this project several years ago when my niece asked me about our family and I knew more than my siblings but not enough for her. This has been fun for me and now I am hooked.
