DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Rick or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • Rick Huff: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 111 markers, haplogroup Q-M242, FTDNA kit #173856
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Rick:

Have you taken a DNA test? If so, login to add it. If not, see our friends at Ancestry DNA.

Hi Rick! Did you do a Y-DNA test? It seems that the information detail didn't get in there. It says details were not entered...

FTDNA Y-Chromosome Y-chromosome haplogroup: Not entered Number of markers that were tested: Not entered MitoYDNA ID: Not entered Family Tree DNA kit number: Not entered

Good afternoon. Yes, I have taken the Y DNA test and I thought I had uploaded the information. Suggestions?

LOL! Go to your WikiTree Profile page. On the right side, toward the top, is DNA Connections. You registered that you were tested, just not the particulars. Click on [test details] and that's where more detail such as your haplogroup gets filled in. If your haplogroup is Q-M242, consider also joining the Facebook group, Huff & Hoff Q-M242 DNA Haplogroup Family Genealogy.

My group is the Q 242 and I am a descendent of Dirrick Pauluszen Hoff. In fact, I am in the process of an upgrade to the 111 Y DNA test. Yes, I have done what you described regarding the uploading of my DNA test results but I am no longer a user of FB and their suppression of free speech. I will try sharing the results to this site one more time.

Q-M242 here as well. Our male cousin took the test for us, it's a Y-111 under James (Jimmy) Huff, Kit #870588. So we, too likely related back to Paulus and Dirk. Somehow. I just checked, didn't see yours but only quickly checked the Genetic Distances matches, figure might as well wait to compare at 111. I agree, those Big Tech social media is disgusting, disgusting, disgusting...even more than disgusting!

Well, I just tried it again (as my mother would say the umpteenth time) and for some unknown reason it doesn't accept my entries on the edit page and it doesn't state why or what the problem is. Sorry
posted by Rick Huff
Oh darn! MAYBE... how 'bout wait for the 111 results & try again or something. Maybe it'll let you delete the first test registration in order to just start fresh. I don't remember if that's what I did or not, back when. My first time entering, I made a typo that I didn't realize I'd made until a whie later.

So, you still don't see my DNA test results?

I see sites like FB and twitter as part of the analogous highway. You can drive down any one of them and find some good things but, conversely, you can do the same and find all kinds of sewer, swamps, and waste disposal sites. I see them as the latter.

I just looked at the Family Tree DNA location and it's there. Kit number et al. Now that I can pretend to know what I am doing, I can make the subsequent changes when the 111 results are in.

So, do we know how we're related?

Hmmmm... at 67 markers, your test was among the last genetically distant from my cousin's test! There were 6 genetic differences it seems.

My Charles Wesley Huff 's line; his father or grandfather traces back to NJ. I bet your line does too.

Good morning.

I finally was able to add my Y111 data from FTDNA. Now we can explore?

Hi Rick

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Take care

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

OK, so I am building my profile now. However, why wouldn't my uploaded ged file, which has all this information, do this automatically? Or, at least, partially automatically? Re-entering family data into yet another location for yet another family tree doesn't seem to be worth the time and we all know how valuable our time is and how wonderful the technology can be if used appropriately.

Also, doing this ged compare routine for my ged file shows well over 1400 individuals for comparison but the site leaves little in the way of explanation to say HOW to accept or reject each. It's not very clear nor user friendly, not to mention this will take a long time to accept or reject each and every one in the file while re-entering and reiterating my family tree. Moreover, I have one individual who has two comparisons in the same slot. One I want to keep because it's right but the other I want to reject because it isn't. What to do about that? Nothing in the text on that page explains that.

It also goes on to say my ged will be erased after 60 days. Why? Shouldn't that be a major portion of my site? I believe that is the purpose, isn't it? Then after I painstakingly compare these 1400+ individuals it then gets erased?

I have used computers since the 1980's but this is confusing to say the least.

Hi Rick!

We are so happy to have you here in the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the !world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration. Don't be afraid to ask questions in our G2G forum and get involved as much or as little as works for you. Be sure to check out the tabs at the very top right hand side of your profile, there is lots to discover!

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!

Happy tree climbing

Please get back to me if you are still having problems.

Good morning. I haven't been able to enter data in my profile. It appears I am in some kind of redundant loop. I am also not able to upgrade because of the lack of profile data? I don't know but I tried a number of different ways and it will not accept my profile data as well as my family members. It doesn't even like the fact that I am male and that I have Y chromosome data.
