Louis was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and will likely live there all his life. He is married to Cheryl. They have two daughters.
Louis has a BSc Honours in Statistics and an MSc in Computer Science. He worked for 40 years for Manitoba Hydro and retired as manager of the Market Forecasting Department on his 60th birthday.
Louis has been interested in genealogy since about 1975, when a great aunt from California visited and started drawing out the family tree.
Louis was involved with the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada for over 20 years, and was a Board Member, head of the Genealogical Institute, led their cemetery photography project, developed their database search tool, was head of the Archives committee, Vice President, President, and Past President.
Louis is the developer of the genealogy program Behold at www.beholdgenealogy.com and the DNA Analysis program Double Match Triangulator at www.doublematchtriangulator.com - the latter having won 3rd place in the 2017 RootsTech Innovator's Showdown.
Louis has had his own personal website at www.lkessler.com since 1996. He has been blogging (mostly about genealogy and DNA stuff and genealogy software development) since 2002 at www.beholdgenealogy.com/blog.
Louis has been giving talks internationally about genealogy and DNA since 2012. Louis is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and of the Genealogical Speakers Guild.
Louis worked on his genealogy as a hobby until about 1999. From then until his retirement in 2016, Louis' genealogy was limited to collecting material for future analysis. After retiring, Louis got back to working on his own genealogy and this has become his ongoing passion.
Louis is excited to have discovered the WikiTree community and is looking forward to including his genealogy research in WikiTree.

Thank you for adding a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches, once that has been done, you add any remaining names manually.
The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.
If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments, or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there, you can leave a comment, or send a private message.

I just wanted to check out your GEDCOM compare to see what it does and if there was anyone already on WikiTree that I would connect to. Couldn't find any.
That's a nicely written and very comprehensive GEDCOMpare process guide.

One day I'll get my genealogy up on WikiTree. Too busy now with too many other projects going on.

It's good to have you with us! I'm sure you're going to enjoy WikiTree as much as we do.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
If you do get stuck, post a comment on my page and Ill do my best to help you move forward.
Please add as much information to each profile you create or edit as you can; it all helps turn a name back into a person.
Happy tree climbing,
Claire ~ WikiTree Greeter
P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section on your profile page.
