Biography

Elizabeth Loftin was born 1 January 1714 in St George Parish, Baltimore County, Maryland.[citation needed] She is the daughter of Thomas Loftin and Eleanor (Unknown).[1][2]

Elizabeth Loftin married Moses Teague Sr in Virginia about 1738.[3][4] Their known children are:

  1. Moses Teague
  2. Elizabeth Mary "Isabelle" Teague
  3. Abraham Teague
  4. William Teague
  5. Isaac Teague
  6. Jacob Teague
  7. Susannah Teague

Elizabeth Teague is named in her father Thomas Loftin's Will, which was written on 5 September 1751, and proved on 12 November 1751 in Frederick County, Virginia.[1][2] In the Will, Thomas named his wife Hellenor and the following children:

  1. Zekiel Loftin
  2. Sarah Ward
  3. Elizabeth Teague
  4. Hannah Lewis
  5. John Loftin
  6. William Loftin
  7. Isabel Loftin
  8. Abigail Loftin
  9. Thomas Loftin

She died after 5 September 1751.[1]

Research Notes

Vital Statistics

Birth'
Her birth date is listed as exact/certain 1 Jan 1714 in St George's Parish, Baltimore County, Province of Maryland in the data field. This date and place was previously sourced with an unreliable Marriage record (Ancestry pedigree chart) that lists her birth as 1717 in Virginia instead.[5]

Marriage
Her marriage is sourced with the DAR index for her husband Moses Teague rather than the underlying records from these DAR Applications and Supplementals. A reliable source for their marriage should be added.

Death
Her death date is listed as about 12 Nov 1757 in the data field.

Her biography previously stated:

"She died on 12 November 1757 (or 1751), in Rowan, North Carolina, at the age of 43, and was buried in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina."

That statement was sourced with her Find a Grave memorial, but the memorial does not list that place, is unsourced, and does not have a photograph of a gravestone for her.

The death date of 12 November 1757 may be a typo of the date 12 November 1751 when her father's Will was proved. She was apparently alive when the Will was written on 5 September 1751. The attached sources for the Estate of her father do not appear to show that she was or was not alive after 12 November 1751.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

Based on Elizabeth Teague being named in her father Thomas Loftin's Will, which was written on 5 September 1751, and the lack of a reliable source for the death date of about 12 Nov 1757 (which bears a resemblance to the date his Will was proved on 12 November 1751), I propose to change her death date to after 5 Sep 1751 in the death data field.

Is there a reliable source for her listed death place of Rowan County, NC?

Do you mind if I clean up this profile and make it more like her husbands?

Hope you and yours have a wonderful weekend

Teague-1916 and Loftin-83 appear to represent the same person because: Exact dates, same spouse and children

Target profile to be Loftin-83

Loftin-299 and Loftin-83 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicates of wife of Moses Teague Sr.
Loftin-105 and Lofton-59 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same husband, same time frame and similar places
Loftin-105 and Loftin-83 appear to represent the same person because: Same person with slighly conflicting dates
