Biography

Grant was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1954, where he completed his schooling. He joined the South African Navy as a cadet officer at Naval College in Gordon's Bay. After a year's service he went to university to study Electrical Engineering but didn't complete this course. He then worked at the Dept of Posts and Telegraphs as a technician before joining Shell South Africa as an admin assistant. Various jobs within Shell followed, including Marine Representative in Cape Town and Tanker Operations Manager in Johannesburg. Sixteen years later he got the job as PR man for Mazda, Ford and Mitsubishi at the factory in Pretoria.

In 1993 he and his family emigrated to Dublin, Ireland where he worked as a news reader on radio.

In 1994 the family emigrated to Brisbane, Australia, where he worked in various Public Relations positions before opening his own PR business. He then began writing books under his own name as well as ghost writing for clients. He wrote a total of 50 books.

Grant joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Public Relations Officer in 2008 and spent many years working with the Fleet in Sydney as well as being deployed to Japan on board HMAS Sydney, where the ship was embedded with the US 7th Fleet. Two years followed working at headquarters in the Engineering Department before he retired.

Warm regards Ronel [SA Roots leader]

Hi Ronel, Thanks for this. My ancestor was Christiaan Rudolf de Wet (De_Wet-863). On 9 December 1899, De Wet received a telegram from the State President, M.T. Steyn, informing him that he had been appointed a fighting general and was to proceed to the Western frontier.[7] He found General Piet Cronjé in command of the Boer forces ensconced at Magersfontein, south of Kimberley, while the English were at the Modder River. De Wet was to be Cronje's second-in-command.

Regards Grant

Nuwe nuus en hulp asseblief as jy kans sien

Hi Grant, I merged the duplicate (see What are duplicates? Why should and how can they be avoided?) of Du_Plessis-2605 that you have created. I also integrated the data in the biography in collatory fashion as is required in the South African Roots Project.

Please edit the other profiles you've made in similar fashion, retaining the data already on the profiles and giving credit in the fashion I did.

Please be aware that the "source" that you mention, is not regarded as valid source by WikiTree. See in this regard Pre-1700 Quiz (self-certifying in order to understand better how to do [pre- but also post-1700] genealogical work on WikiTree).

Welcome to the ABW sub-project Grant Looking forward to work with you on this significant part of our history: You can start by adding and activating the ABW project as manager to all the profiles as well as adding the ABW template to the Bios . This will enable us to identify the profiles as part of that history. Do ask if you can not find the "how to" on the SA Roots home pages - link I provided on the main communication page for SA Roots page on G2 -

Good luck with your tree and do ask if you don't understand or need help in any way. Warm regards. R

Hi Grant,

Welcome to the South African Roots Project, we also have a Suid Afrikaanse Portaal a Portaal for all people from South Africa where they can find all WikiTree stuff explained in their own language and if you have questions just ask we all are happy to help !

Greets and have a wonderful day,

The South African Roots Project team :)

Thank you Grant

Much appreciated. I have many sources on the Olivier family and are more than willing to share all I have  :-D Yes indeed it is a fascinating puzzle.

Hi Grant,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Add the project tag to your Following list to be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-) Natalie ~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Today I completed research as far as I can into the Drury line of my family history. Can go all the way back to around 1066 in England. And it's documented and well sourced.
