Biography

Marie Josephe Richard was born about 1674 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Michel Richard (abt. 1630–bef. 1689) and Madeleine Blanchard (abt. 1643–bef. 1683).
In 1686, at Port Royal, Marie [recte Marie Josephe], aged 12, was living with her father, Michel RICHARD, aged 56, and her stepmother, Jeanne BABIN, aged 18. Also living with her were four siblings from her father's first marriage to Magdeleine [sic] BLANCHARD: Martin, aged 19, Alexandre, aged 17, Cecille [sic], aged 10, and Marguerite, aged 7. The five other siblings (Rene, Pierre, Catherine, Anne and Magdeleine [recte Madeleine Elizabeth]) from her father's first marriage who are married and unnamed in the census are recorded elsewhere in the 1686 census with their spouses. The youngest in the family was her half-brother Michel, aged 2 (the son of her father and Jeanne BABIN). The family owned 2 guns, 12 arpents of cultivable land with 16 cattle, 30 sheep and 8 hogs.[1]
Marie (14) married Michel Vincent (20) (born about 1668 in Port-Royal; son of Pierre Vincent and Anne Gaudet) in 1689 in Port Royal, Acadie. Their children were:
  1. Marie Vincent (abt. 1690–1758) .
  2. Agnes Vincent (abt. 1692–abt. 1758) .
  3. Anne Vincent (1693–1757) .
  4. Marguerite Vincent (1696–aft. 1762) .
  5. Elisabeth Vincent (abt. 1697–aft. 1763) .
  6. Claire Vincent (abt. 1706–1769) .
  7. Pierre Vincent (abt. 1708–bef. 1760) .
  8. Antoine Vincent (abt. 1709–1776)
She died around age 35 on October 2, 1709 and was buried the next day at Pisiguit, Acadie.[2]

Research Notes

According to Stephen White, the date of death is 2 December instead of 2 October, and burial was the next day.[3]

According to the DOBR, she died Sept 2.[4]
