I can share some of my resources and stories. I have my grandfather Lyle Severance's copy of Michigan Trailmakers by Henry Ormal Severance, pub 1930. It includes the stories of Charles Severance/Martha Lamb and Ezra Severance/Susanna Lamb's trip from Upstate NY to Michigan in 1835. Also photos of Needhams at Golden Wedding Anniversaries - John Needham and Margaret Smith, and his son William Alexander Needham and Alice Rosella Brown, and a handful of Severance photos. I've also been given my Dad's family letters, which begin in 1898 and go through the early 1960s. The family is Lucius Severance, Ezra and Susanna's youngest, his wife M. Rosa, their sons Lyle and Clyde, and the Needham girls and their brother born to William and Alice.

PS - my family made a trip similar to the one you mention above, and Needham is another family name. Any Gages or Chapels listed?

Hi Ellen

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added, if they have profiles. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Let me know if you have any questions and have fun!

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site

Hi Ellen,

You can export your tree as a Gedcom from My Heritage. Go to the Family tree...manage trees...choose your tree and on the right there is an option to export to gedcom. Click that & on the following page you have the option to have your pictures included, then they send you an email with a link to download it all. Please do read our http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/GEDCOM files.

You can compare your gedcom and see if there are any existing ancestors already here whilst you are a guest, but to import it you will need to enter tags and volunteer first.

Of course you always have the option to manually add profiles, that is entirely up to you :)

If you have any further questions please do contact me again and I will try and help you :)

Hi Ellen

A warm welcome to the Wikitree Family. By now you will have received an email with useful links to get you started. Take your time and browse the site to see what Wikitree has to offer.

Wikitree is different, because we have one goal: To have one big Global tree. This means we have one profile per person, and we collaborate as one big team.

When you confirm your email address, you will have the opportunity to volunteer by adding tags to your profile. These should contain what interests you in your genealogy: surnames, locations, etc.

A Greeter will then confirm your membership, and you will be able to start adding your information.

We are all volunteers here and happy to help if you need it.

I look forward to seeing you in the tree :)

Happy researching

Wendy?
