The Edward III Descendants project and the Edward III Gateway Ancestors project have made Edward a very popular man to be related to.

So to give everyone a space to compare relationships and which lineages you come from, here's a post to celebrate connections to this famous English monarch.

Add your relationship to Edward below either as an answer (preferred) or a comment to this post, and see who else is from the same line. Get chatting to some new cousins!

To recognise and celebrate your relationship to Edward, you can put this sticker on your own profile in the Biography section (to get the Relationship Finder to work). Just copy and paste the following code into your own profile. You will need to replace "Whatever your relationship is" with your real relationship.

{{Relationship Sticker
|image=UK_Flags-47.png
|imagetext=Crown of St Edward
|relationship=Whatever your relationship is
|name=King Edward III
|id=Plantagenet-70
}}

The sticker features the crown of St Edward the Confessor, which is the coronation crown of Great Britain. (Many thanks to Liz Shifflett for developing the code for the sticker).

If you want to follow Edward, you can bookmark his profile to see what changes are being made to his profile. If you are a descendant, you can follow Edward by going into your Family Activity Feed and choosing the Ancestors tab.

Update 1 8 August: For the sticker to work (link to the relationship finder), it has to be in your Biography section.

Me too! Hello cousin! smiley

I'd hope so because my 2nd great grandfather was a Greek Orthodox Priest. He had a bunch of children. I did take a tour of an Greek Orthodox Church last summer and the priest did mention that they had to make that choice before they became a priest if they were getting married or not.
19th Granddaughter is the closest but also a 21st.  I can't get the sticker to work I tried everything.
Hello back cousin nice to meet you.
I am Edward III's 19th great-granddaughter.
I have tried everything as well to get a sticker, so I understand your frustration  lol.
I finally figured it out. I think I’d copy and pasted it wrong but I put it in the biography section on my profile page and it worked!

Edward (Plantagenet) of England was my 20th g-g-father. I have 3 different paths between me & him:

1) 22 generations (first direct path) (20th g-g-father)

2) 23 generations through Griffith John Griffith (abt. 1525 to 1608) at gen. 15 (21st g-g-father)

3) 23 generations through Richard (Bulkeley) of Beaumaris (bef. 1524-1572) at gen. 16 (21st g-g-father)

If we are to input these connections on a table & verify it through DNA, then I will have to wait to do more as I am still waiting on my results. I don't understand how to self-certify on the 1700 & so I don't deal with anything before the 1800's that I can't find a source for in my own very limited way. If I can't even do that, I certainly won't be uploading anything to that table.

Edward III is my 18th great grandfather via his son, John of Gaunt, once the Duke of Aquitaine.  Interesting, because another of my ancestral lines shows that Eleanor of Aquitaine is also one of my 23rd great-grandmothers.  They must explain my love of fine Bordeaux wines!

I am a 19th great grandson of King Edward III. The descent is through 2 grandchildren of Edward; through Henry, son of John of Gaunt and through John Owen (1570 to 1612),
and Joan, daughter of John of Gaunt and Dorothy Laugharne (1583 to 1653).
