Biography

There is some confusion about John Moore's parentage and his wife. In an article published by The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, John Moore who married Abigail _____ is shown as son of Joseph Moore, with a birth date of May 8, 1683.^[1]. However, in an addendum in a later volume of this periodical, the same author states that it was Jacob Moore's son, John, who married Abigail Wright, and moved to Rutland, Massachusetts.^[2] The author cites no sources regarding their move to Rutland, and no birth records for children of John Moore have been found in Rutland; birth records exist for children of John Moore and Abigail in Sudbury, Massachusetts, between 1703 and 1713. John Moore, son of Jacob Moore was born in 1673, which seems like a better match for Abigail Wright, who was born in 1672. John and Abigail's children were born starting in 1703, at which time John (son of Joseph) would have just turned 20 years old, and Abigail would have been 29 years old. Their first born child being named Jacob, may be another indication that John was a son of Jacob rather than a son of Joseph.

Research Notes

It appears that a deed from Jacob Moore to son John Moore was made in 1697.^[13] Is this the John to whom the land is being given?

On August 14, 1730, a John Moore of Sudbury deeded to his son Jacob Moore half his homestead in Sudbury. The land was possibly earlier owned by Joseph Curtis. Also mentioned in the deed are Ephraim Moore and Kezia Moore. ^[14] Is this a deed from THIS John Moore to his son, Jacob?
