It is alleged in numerous online sources that this person is the son of John Oliver and Elizabeth Rowland. This provides a purportedly illustrious royal ancestry. However, there is no primary or reputable secondary evidence of this connection and it has been disconnected.
John Oliver, Newbury, died intestate. On 14 June 1642, the Essex County court gave his estate, about £420, to widow Joane on condition that she pay £100 to the daughter (then aged about 2 years) at the time of marriage or at 18 years of age, and £100 at age 21.[1]
Copy of power of attorney from Walter Stephens of Bristoll, mercer, to my "Cosen Christopher Olliver of the said citty Merchant" to recover of the executors or administrators of John Olliver, heretofore of the city of Bristoll, mercer and late of New England, deceased, all demands whatsoever which are due or owing to me by the said John Olliver; signed Jan. 10, 1642[/3], by Walter Stephens, and witnessed by ffrancis Brewster, Richard Stephens, Walter Stephens, jr. and Abell Kelly. Certificate signed by Jno. Lowle and Christopher Olliver.[1]
