William Allis, early immigrant and resident of Braintree, Hadley and Hatfield, Massachusetts was born in England about 1617 (assuming he was 25 at his estimated marriage). The specific date and place of birth and his parents are unknown.[1] He emigrated to Massachusetts Bay Colony by 1639.[1] He died on 6 September 1678,[2][3] and his will was probated on 24 September 1678.[4]
He took the Freeman's Oath 13 May 1640,[5] at Braintree, Massachusetts.[citation needed]
At Braintree, "they raised a large family and became prominent in the community. William was a selectman in 1651 and 1652.[citation needed] He was a commissioner from 1656 to 1658[citation needed] and presided at three marriages.[citation needed] In 1658, he was ordained a deacon."[6][7]
Family
His first wife was Mary _____. [8] William and Mary (_____) Allis were the parents of eight children.[9][10]
His second wife was Mary Brownson,[11] whom he married June 25, 1678 in Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts. [12]
Research Notes
Claimed earlier migration: Some sources say he was with Winthrop's fleet in 1630 on the Mayflower in its third voyage.[2] Anderson in the Great Migration Directory finds no record before 1639 for him.
Claimed birth date: In 2011, Neal L. Smith claimed without further reference that William was born in 1622.[13]
Discrepancies in noted children: Sprague in the Genealogies of the Families of Braintree notes "See history of Hatfield for some of his descendants, and which gives a list of children not agreeing with the entries on Braintree records"
Possible origins: Banks claims he was from Doggenham, Essex. Reference PCC Ruthan 130

Profile of William Allis is in need of some tender care. Might you help me in crafting a "Disputed Origins" section to lead the profile material.
Once we understand just how far the variance goes, then we/I can add a section, "Research Needed" to further note the specifics of the discrepancies.
Thank you again, Perry. --Gene
