Biography

Mercy Burt was born on 27 Sep 1647 at Springfield, Massachusetts,^[1] the youngest child of Eulalia (Marche) and Henry Burt.^[2]

Mercy married Judah Wright on 7 Jan 1666/1667.^[3] Judah was born on 10 May 1642 at Springfield,^[1] the son of Deacon Samuel Wright and Margaret [Stratton]. He took an oath of fidelity on 26 Mar 1661 at Northampton.^[4]

Mercy was named in her mother's will, dated 27 May 1684, at Springfield. Her mother died in 1690. She received a legacy of "the halfe of that Cloth that is sent to the weavers, and the Serdge her husband sent me for a wastecoate, one pair of sheetes, one pillow-beer, ond shift, one coate."^[4]

2. Mercy Wright, born 4 Mar 1668/69; married Samuel Allen as his second wife.^[5]
3. Hester Wright, born 18 Aug 1671;^[5] died 1674.^[5]
4. Judah Wright, born 4 Nov 1673; died young.^[5]
5. Judah Wright, born May 1677; settled in Deerfield; married Mary or Mercy Hoyt; and was taken captive in the 1704 Deerfield raid.^[2]
6. Ebenezer Wright, born 1679; married Mary Judd;^[5] was in the Meadow Fight of 1704;^[2] died in 1767.^[5]
7. Thomas Wright, born 8 Apr 1682;^[2] a weaver, he died unmarried in 1744.^[5]
8. Patience Wright, born 18 Apr 1684; married John Stebbins of Springfield.^[2]
9. Nathaniel Wright, born 5 May 1688; settled in Deerfield and died there 17 Nov 1711.^[2]

Mercy Burt Wright is thought to have died in 1705. In 1706, Judah married widow Sarah Burke as her third husband.^[5] Judah died at Northampton in 1725.^[5]
