Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution.

Biografi

St Olaf's Saga

Ragnvald was the son of Bruse Sigurdsson. [1]Bruse fell out with his brother, Thorfinn and went to Olaf Haraldsson in Norway, seeking support and taking Ragnvald, then aged 10, with him.[2] When Bruse returned to Orkney Ragnvald remained with Olaf in Norway. [3] In 1030 he fought on the side of Olaf at the Battle of Stiklestad where Olaf was killed. Thereafter he fled to Russia with Olaf's half-brother the 15 year old Harald Sigurdsson.[4][5] They were well received by Yaroslav who made Rognvald, his son, Eilif, and Harald chiefs of the land defence men.

Ragnvald later returned to Norway with Olaf's son, Magnus the Good who sent Ragnvald back to Orkney with his order that Earl Thorfinn should let him have his father's inheritance. [6]

The Orkneyinga Saga is largely silent about his personal life and there is no mention of a wife, or children. [7]

Buried Olav Church in Kirkwall in memory of his foster father, King Olav.

Attended 19 years antique?

Note

No reference to wives is found in Heimskringla. Perhaps they should be sought in Orkneyingasaga.

The daughter Thora, Ragnvaldsdatter-8, has been disconnected. The Thora who married Brynjulv (Halldorsson) Ulvalde has no known parents, in fact she has three different patronyms depending on what saga. Andersson-4409 08:55, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Are there any objections if I detach the profile of Felicia as the wife of Rognvald? I've edited her profile to explain why I think she is purely fictional and I'll propose that she is added to the Disproven existence project.

None at all from me, please go ahead. No wife or children mentioned in the Orkneysaga.

Something seems to be wrong with the WikiTree relationship finder -- it shows a similar discrepancy on my wife's tree (Ragnald her 2nd cousin 26 times removed, but Robert her 28th great grandfather). But on my private database (whose GEDCOM I uploaded to WT) Ragnald shows up as her 28th great grandfather.

Could there be an error on this profile? Relationship finder shows him to be my 1st cousins 27 times removed. But his son Robert is shown to be my 28th grandfather. Something doesn't seem right...... input from anyone?
