Biography

Rebecca (du Booys) du Bois was a daughter of a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).

Rebecca was baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York, on 18 June 1671, recorded as the child of Lowies du Booys and Catharina. The witnesses were Jan Joosten and Jacomeyntie Barents Slegt. [1]

She appears to have died young. Some genealogies mistakenly identify her as the wife of Hendrick van Meteren, who was her nephew. This misidentification results from confusing her with another Rebecca DuBois who was born several decades later and married a different Henry Van Meter.

Burial: Date: 1681[citation needed]

I corrected the LNAB. When people document a record that indicates a need to change the LNAB, it would be helpful if they would edit the "Needs" parameter in the project box to change "Needs=LNAB" to "Needs=LNAB Correction". That will place the profile in a maintenance category for profiles needing LNAB changes.

If the spelling at birth was Du_booys and the fatfher's surname is D_Bois, why is the LNAB Dubois?

Du bois-59 and DuBois-210 appear to represent the same person because:

Hi,

These probably are the same and can be merged thanks ! She was baptized on 18 June 1671 (see baptism record / source at duplicate profile)..last name of father in this (earliest record for Rebecca) record was written as du Booys ... according some online genealogies she was married to Hendrick van Meteren (son of Joost Jans van Meteren, but this according the info at his profile is wrong and it was this Henry van Meteren who married this Rebecca du Bois (they both are from much later dates).

Jan Joosten was witness at the baptism of Rebecca and if that Jan Joosten was Jan Joosten van Meteren, his son Joost Jansen van Meteren was married to her (this profile's) sister Sarah du Bois..they had a son named Hendrick and Rebecca (this profile) would have been the maternal aunt of Hendrick van Meteren..so ... it's not impossible, but it seems unlikely an aunt would marry her nephew (son of her sister) ..
