Biography

I am the child of Houston and Cindy (Manning) Alexander. I was born in 1981 in Redding, California. I have been married twice and have two daughters. I have one brother, who died in 2012 from cancer.

I am interested in researching the Manning and Alexander lines of my family.

I have "sloppily" traced the Tittsworth line of my family back to the original Dutch Colony at Manhattan. I did this work about 10 years ago, but I feel the need to go back and check the accuracy of this work against proven documents. Much of the information was based on other's family trees on MyHeritage that I did not take time to fact check. So, I will basically be starting over on that line as I place it into this tree.

The Manning line has hit a dead end a few generations up when my Manning ancestor immigrated from Ireland in the 1800s. I have found a reference to his name via marriage records of his son, however, it's only first initials and last name. At this point, I'm not even sure what variant of "Manning" he immigrated under. I'm stumped and hoping to find some hope here.

My Alexander line... well, it's up to debate. My dad's aunts swear up and down that their father was mostly Native American, she thinks Apache. I have no clue how to find this out or where to even start. I have not found anything in the family to document this, but it has been passed down by word of mouth for a few generations now. My 23andme test says that I am a small percent Native American, so there's that. My aunts and dad and my late brother look like they could have Native in them.

I have taken a 23andme test and have also imported it into my MyHeritage account. I have been able to connect with some of my unknown 3rd-5th cousins and figure out by comparing our family trees how we are related. This technology really excites me. I look at my list of DNA relatives as a mystery "game" trying to unravel how we are related.

Thanks for signing the Honor Code, Heidi. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the last several years.

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
