I grew up in northwestern Connecticut and attended the Univ of Connecticut for two years, then graduated from the Univ of Vermont in 1976. Using my English major, I worked for both a non profit and for computer companies writing and creating marketing communications. My paternal grandmother Geer got me hooked on genealogy when she presented me with a bunch of family charts her sister had created. I learned she was a member of the DAR and that I have several Mayflower ancestors.
Genealogy research has become a passion and I have visited places in England and Lithuania as well as the New England and New York state to see where these people came from.
A few years ago, DNA testing revealed a huge surprise - that my father's father was his biographical father, not his biological father. So I am currently researching Polish roots as well as my Lithuanian roots on my mother's side.
First hand knowledge and DNA testing results from FTDNA, Ancestry.com and 23andMe.

My name is John Kingman. I am a Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project.
Since you have started following a DNA tag, you may be interested in how you can use DNA test matches with your relatives to strengthen your genealogy on WikiTree. You will find the answers in the Help pages, of which the DNA Help category page shows all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started with DNA page is highlighted. Also the DNA Features page can show you various ways that DNA tests can work with your genealogy.
You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" on your profile if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of an acceptable DNA match. You may find that you have acceptable matches with some of them. There is more information about DNA Connections on the DNA Test Connections page.
When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the Confirmed with DNA help page. Also, I strongly recommend using the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker, for creating and/or validating your DNA confirmation source citations. Note that a profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source citations for both genealogy and relevant DNA test matches.
If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation".
Please sign our Honor Code, and happy WikiTree-ing!

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
