When I was a child, surrounded by siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, I never thought anything beyond us being one big family who lived on different streets and in different houses. It wasn't until I asked my mother why so and so wasn't at a particular wedding reception that I learned that there was a "Dad's side" and a "Mom's side" of the family and so I suppose my introduction to genealogy began early.
My interest did not go much beyond what was written in the family Bible, but after marriage and children and living away from family for so many years, it took the loss of my parents to realize I should have paid more attention or asked a few more questions. Thankful that my mother kept photos, family notes, funeral cards and death notices, I attempted to put together a family tree, but never succeeded with the daunting task.
A random Facebook post on a page dedicated to my hometown prompted me to look up a family connection and led me to the WikiTree site where I found my mother's ancestry put in place by a wonderful wiki genealogist. I fell in love with the site, dug out my notes, and have begun the journey to finally connect the dots, make discoveries, and honor my mother's hard work in keeping track of our family. I intend to build on that and am grateful for this site and for everyone in the genealogy world who provides so much readily available information to help along the way.
I believe I have found my niche and am enjoying myself immensely. I look forward to contributing as much as I can to the worldwide tree as I make my own ancestral discoveries and hope to help others along the way.
